Mesut Ozil is facing a race against time to be fit for Germany’s opening game of the World Cup against Mexico on 17 June.
The Arsenal midfielder is understood to have suffered bruising to his knee after clashing with Watford’s Sebastian Prodl in last weekend’s friendly defeat to Austria.
Ozil, who missed the Gunners final three games of the season with a back injury, opened the scoring on 11 minutes but was substituted in the second half.
The 29-year-old has undertaking fitness and conditioning work on his own since picking up the problem and is expected to miss Die Mannschaft’s final warm-up game against Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Over the past few years he has been and he wouldn’t have been German player of the year for 5 of the past 6 years if he wasn’t so creative.
He’s created more chances than anyone else in his time with us. It’s not his fault that he’s had to watch Walcott, Welbeck etc. tripping over their own feet or cunting the ball into row z.
