Guendouzi: I’m happy to join a legendary club

New signing Matteo Guendouzi, announced today as the fifth signing of the summer, says he’s going to fight for a club he considers legendary.

After telling the official website joining Arsenal was something he’d dreamed of as a child, he released a statement of his own via his Instagram account.

“I am really happy to join the legendary Arsenal Football Club,” he said.

“I wanted to thank you all for the trust you put in me and I’m looking forward to training and playing on the renowned Emirates Stadium with my new team.

“I’m going to fight for the club and the fans, I want to make history with the Gunners ??
I can’t wait to meet you all.

“Now I’am a Gunner!”

Guendouzi also gave an insight into what Arsenal fans can expect when he steps out in the club’s colours this season.

“I’m a player who likes to get on the ball and use it,” Guendouzi told Arsenal Player.

“I like keeping possession and to play too. Playing the ball, linking up with my team-mates, battling for the team. I want to win every game – that’s really important to me.

“I’d say my main quality is keeping the ball and my passing.”

Guendouzi has been handed the number 29 shirt, inherited from Granit Xhaka who has changed to 34, and will start pre-season training immediately.

Head coach Unai Emery expects his new signing to be an important part of the first team from the off.

“We are delighted Matteo is joining us,” Emery told Arsenal.com.

“He is a talented young player and a lot of clubs were interested in him. He has big potential and gained good first-team experience last season with Lorient.

“He wants to learn and improve and will be an important part of our first-team squad.”

Looks like a perm for our midfield

Double98

He’ll run ringlets around the opposition

Average Joe

Ba Dum Tss!!!

Mediocre Maximillian

Shure is a doozy!

Bould's Eyeliner

A real brow beater

Gooner for Liiiiiiiiiiiiife

Based on his physique and similar looks to fellaini, I though he’s a slower player, but after watching the video boy this boy can run.

Whowearsshortshorts?

Sideshow Bob and Gilbert O’Sullivan have a baby…..

PleaseExplainJohn

Haven’t seen us sign a teenager who goes straight into the first team since Theo(and Ox as well?). I am excited for the young man. May he taste success as a gunner this season and many more to come.

WhatADouzi

If his performances are half as good as his hair, I think we’re all going to enjoy a great future together! COYG!

Laca-Sead

My cousin lives in Lorient and he s been raving about him all season. Glad my beloved Arsenal decided to shut him up the little brat ( kidding I love him)!!

Mayor McCheese

Watch out for that first step, it’s Guendouzi!

Santi’s Flip Flop

Best so far. I like your work.

Man Manny

I know it’s only youtube but if this guy progresses well, Elneny’s place… on the bench is not guaranteed by the time this guy has settled in. In two seasons, he’ll be a genuine alternative to Xhaka.

Mesut O'Neill

Hopefully he pans out to be a douzi of a signing

Trez

Good signing. We still lack a ball carrier and honestly, haven’t replaced Wilshere and to a certain extent Santi (some would say Torreira does that)
AMN, Xhaka, Torreira, Elneny, Guendouzi and Ramsey…there’s def a lack of creativity here.
Anything happens to Ozil and Mkhitaryan and we’re fucked big time.
From having too many creative midfielders to having too many b2b/destroyers. Wenger has truly left the club

King Nacho

Shame the whiners remained.

Trez

I suggest you shut up and ignore my comment if you have nothing decent to say.

Ayleym

Twat

Adriano

i thought it was a reasonable comment. any games where ramsey played in the number 10 without mikhi (previously sanchez) or ozil on the wings, we created next to nothing. this has been the case over the past few seasons.

Goontang

To be fair, it’s much more squad depth in midfield than most Top 6 teams. We are talking about 6 players for 2 starting positions. Ramsey and Xhaka can create. Plus we’ve got players like Smith Rowe being introduced and Zelalem coming back from injury. I’d say our midfield is stacked.

You’ve already said Ozil and Miki as attacking, you can’t surely get much better than that for creativity in front of them.

Bould's Eyeliner

Ramsey can be a ball carrier when he’s in form (but who knows if that will happen), and AMN should definitely be adding that to his skillset in the coming years, given his natural pace. Also it’s highly unlikely that both ozil and mkhitaryan will be risked that way.

bendtnerschristmastree

If Ramsey signs a new contract, Emery definitely has a plan to play him higher up on the pitch.

COYG1001

Might also be a sign to Ramsey that we will not be blackmailed. Alternatively, some signings may be based on the assumption that Ramsey is not signing. Either case, hardball tactics that I hope we show on the pitch.

Anonymarse

Ramsey is probably waiting to see what Real Madrid do

Red-Sky

lol

PeteyB

Feel increasingly like Ramsey will go. But the. Torreira could have waited for number 8 if he was clearly going.

Trez

If we get a winger, then Ramsey is def leaving.

Cycs

?…n how does the acquisition of a winger affect Ramsey???

Trez

Because Ozil will play as a 10 instead of on the wings and we can get a top class 10.
You do know Emery intends on playing Ramsey as a 10?

Onenil

Great comments seems genuinely excited to be joining us.
Now totally off subject. England:Bollock fuck shit Argggggh
Sorry just had to put that out there

Red-Sky

Off topic..
It’s coming home.
The plane with all the spuds players ???

Double98

Hopefully Welbeck scores 4 in the 3/4th place play off and real madrid target him as the ronaldo replacement and offer us 99 million for him.

Merlin's Panini

What a surprise. England Spurs’d it up when it mattered.
Half the players will be used to scraping top four and not winning anything.

santori

OK whoever. In other news….It’s coming home…it’s coming home. Nauseating media led cockyness rewarded by Croatia. All this meal made by the media on an average team overcoming the likes of Panama, Colombia (without James Rodriguez) or Sweden. Truth is england had a very lucky run in. Now dumped out by a nation boasting a mere 4m population. Somewhat of a reality check. Much like how some imagine our Arsenal to still be a ‘big team’. Anyway, France versus Croatia is about right. Dark horses Croatia, hope they win it but if not France with arguably one of the most… Read more »

Double98

I agree – England beat Tunisia, Panama, Columbia and Sweden. narrowly beat Tunisia and Columbia. They lost to Belgium and Croatia. There was no magic sauce from Southgate. There was no special togetherness or spirit. There was no punching above their weight. The only difference is that the media didn’t kill them with criticism. They killed them with support. Footballs coming home. Its such an entitled expression. Entitlement instills complacency. Complacency leads to not changing things. The Sweden match showed is that Kane was tired and pretty anonymous. In fact the hoopla about him was crazy, he scored 1 good… Read more »

Welbinhio

Are you the kind of person who doesn’t smile at puppies? England got further than was expected, it was a welcome distraction from the mess that is our political system and as such generated real goodwill.

Ive always taken the it’s coming home saying as an exercise in very English humour. We say it as we don’t believe it and it stops people using it against us.

I hope you have a more cheerful day and can one day find something that makes you happy, as talking about football and Arsenal clearly doesn’t.

Unai Emeryite

I knew it’s not coming home when I saw half the team made up of the serial bottlers down the avenue. Couldn’t defend a lead that’d have taken them to the final for less than 20 mins! Totts =shit!

Snagger

I really hope this messes up s***s preseason. Players coming back late with their heads not right. A Croatia win will see the last of the spuds chance of getting a winners medal. Here’s hoping

Goontang

Last bloke we picked up from Lorient ligue 2 turned out to be decent.

santori

Our own David Luiz….hopefully he is better. Has some height on him which may offset what Torreira lacks. Emery obviously has high opinion of him to pay the price that was suggested but it may take a while for him to bed in. Likely he will compete with the Jeff for a starting berth in midfield. BOTH have ability to offer. An interesting signing (without expectations) to offset some of the more pedestrian (and predictable) ones AKA Papasdoupastmysellbydate. We need to get some of these players when they are younger before they become the next Rabiot or Kante. This was… Read more »
