Arsenal beat Brentford 3-1 at the Emirates this evening thanks to two goals from Danny Welbeck and a late settler from Alexandre Lacazette. We didn’t have it all our own way though, as the Championship side made a good fist of the second half, but in the end we go through to the next round.

We are talking about the result, Welbeck, Mkhi AND….even about the calibre of the new manager recruited post an ex-legacy manager’s departure, right? 😉

Leno way out of position for their goal.

10/10 for the Mike Dean description, but overturned by VAR on account of I can’t get it out of my head now and its making me feel a bit sick.

Ya gooner
Ya gooner

That stonewall pen that dean didn’t give, I can’t see how var wouldn’t have got it. It’s at the referees discretion to use it which probably means dean ignored the var official. Wouldn’t put it past him the fucker

Is it different than in the WC where the ref had to accept the VAR commitee decision?

Also Chelsea’s equaliser was offside. Maybe the FA and PL are against VAR because they’re just that dumb to use it?

I think it’s high time to say this: Mike Dean really is an……INSULT to his federation. 😛

I’m still getting used to him having the ball in those areas and thinking “oh, well this will be a goal”

Leno – Well well… all those claiming he is good with his feet. Thought he could have done better for the goal too.

Lichsteiner – OK considering few starts he has had to get up to pace. Nervously watching Lback. If Nacho gets knocked, I suppose Lichsteiner is cover.

Mustafi – One poor pass (His usual quota) but otherwise solid. Some important clearances and block which the usual crowd will not give him credit for. Largely the Cbacks were decent.

Holding – Another decent display. Not as good as everyone wants to believe but something for him to build on. If we are without Sokratis for another game or two, Mustafi-Holding partnership will have to work. Over last two games, they have been decent. Its the midfield (and front men) that have to stay more compact and get a strangle hold on the game.

Monreal – Not sure why he is as usual rated so high. Yes some great moments going forward but defensively, he was again suspect several times, once turned way too easily.

Elneny – Some decent work but average performance from average player. Hardworking I’d give you that but nothing to suggest beyond that.

Guendouzi – Not the best game. Some good things he did particularly driving us forward and engaging the opponents. BUT poor give away for the free kick that led to the goal. Had he been Granit, he would have had more severe criticism.

Iwobi – Lost the ball a couple of times on take ons but that’s exactly what we need, someone to gamble on engaging the player. Always instigating stuff from left, unlucky to be slightly off for the goal at the end. He’s the closest to a winger we have and I feel he gives Monreal slightly more protection and outlet than Aubameyang.

Mhkiatryan – Also lost the ball a number of times which again if he were Ozil there would be moans and groans. But generally our creative hub for the day.

Smith Rowe- We have to remember his tender age and on that account a good outing for the young lad.

Welbeck – Could not ask for more from the third choice striker. I think he relishes the CF position. Wenger sticking him out left (like Auba currently with Emery) does not play to his full strength. Hope Danny can keep putting them in, he has attributes very different from Laca or Auba and provides us a different type of threat.

Torreira – Came on. We were not any more solid or we did not establish any better/firm control in midfield.

Ramsey – Came on, some decent moments on the break particularly the one two with Laca.

Lacazette – Conspired to miss a number of chances but finally secured us in injury time with good effort. What I do like about him is he now does what Giroud provided for France in bringing others to bear. He seems critical IMO but we are still slow transitioning to attack bc of our buying policy and the balance of the current squad (we have to wait for fullbacks to fully exploit width…with exception of Iwobi)

Mike Dean – Why is this cretin even refereeing? He is an imbecile and complete embarrassment to football.

A long time ago, I actually posted a suggestion to him: he has some interesting points, and if he just mentioned one or two players, people might get something out of it. Not a chance.

Ah thanks so much for writing all this, how would I know how every player performed if Santori didn’t tell me in such a matter-of-fact tone after every single match? I’d be clueless if it wasn’t for you mate, thank you.

Leno, good hands, good distribution, should have stuck a hand out at that free kick?
Guandouzi, rated him 8 for pure heart, even though his foul led to the goal.
Welbz, a classic header and then a tap in, nice ‘striker’ goals from him, though I think his level dropped in the second half.
Mustafi, getting really tired of his mistakes, falling over for no reason at all in the first half, allowing some Brentford cunt to turn him so easily in the second!
Miki, such a dangerous player! But really needs to add a greater efficiency and remove that wastefulness from game.
Laca, class! He looks effin good!
Elneny good first half, not so good in the second.
Smith Rowe, happy for his debut, but his inexperience showed.
Glad for the win and decent performance

Very impressed with Danny Welbeck last night. As well as scoring two goals he never stopped working and harassing the Brentford players. Great work ethic. Also top marks to the manager for taking the game sriously with his team selection. We were sat just behind the dugout and he spent the whole game on his feet shouting and giving the players instructions, mainly to get forward and press the opposition. He seems to be a good motivator which can only be a positive thing.

Think Iwobi has to start ahead of Ramsey on the weekend and play Ozil at 10 or maybe not at all? I can’t shake that we’ve played some of our better football with our “b team”. We look more balanced when we don’t have to cram all our star names in.

Good to get a win, but with the lineup we played should have had a much easier time with them. All the stats (possession, shots on goal, etc.) were fairly even, but of course the one that matters is on the scoreboard. However, to be only a goal up with minutes left and an equalizer taking us to PKs at home vs a Championship side playing a veteran lineup (with two exceptions) should not happen.

mark

cant see them, just keeps wiring!

This doesn’t work. On Chrome the switch won’t flick so if you try and vote to reveal player ratings, it just keeps chugging.

On Firefox, nothing but the intro text appears so not even a switch to flick!
