Ramsey’s performances won’t be affected by contract saga says Emery

Unai Emery says he doesn’t believe Aaron Ramsey will be negatively affected by the contractual situation which appeared to come to a head this week.

After reports that an agreement had been made between all parties, the contract offer was rescinded by Arsenal and it seems likely now that the Welsh international will leave in the summer.

It has been suggested to Arseblog News that the club were unhappy at the length of time that passed between the agreement and any further contact with Ramsey’s representative, thus prompting the withdrawal, but there may be other financial factors at play.

The 27 year old has started five of the Gunners six Premier League games this season, and the Spaniard talked in glowing terms about him in pre-season, as well as making him one of his group of captains.

The Arsenal boss has seen situations like this before, and doesn’t think it will have any detrimental impact on Ramsey’s form throughout the campaign.

“I don’t think the situation will affect his performances,” he said.

‘I just want to give him and the players the most stability so that they can be focused only on the games. I spoke about this situation in the pre-season and now it is the same.

“I have known and I’m going to know this same situation again because the football career for a player is very short.

“They are professionals for 10, 12 or 15 years but not more and they need to take the best performance and also work very hard in these years for their future and their family’s future.”

We’ll have to wait and see if the club’s longest serving player is included in tomorrow’s starting XI, but every inclusion and omission is going to spark debate until there’s a conclusion of some kind.

I’d only play him if we’re short in midfield now, would rather see his place in the team go to someone who’s still going to be here in 12 months time

Gooooooonnnnaaaaaaaa

Exactly, wouldn’t even give him a place on the bench ahead of an elnenny or joe willock either. After all we’ve done for Ramsey, the number of times he’s out injured per season, the fact that he’s only had one season where he was consistently performing in 10 years, the fact that we’re still trying to figure out what position to play him, this is how he repays us?

This situation – just like the Ox – pisses me off way more than seeing Alexis leave. Fucking judis!

Arseman

What are you talking about? He had aflgreed on a new contract but before he could sign the thing, the club rescinded it. How is that Ramsey’s fault?

Gooooooonnnnaaaaaaaa

Are you serious? We’re well within the last year, the club have offered him a new contract at least a year ago. If they didn’t want him they would have sold him, not keep him in his last year to lose him for nothing. Why would the club pull the deal (allegedly)? He’s playing us until he gets a better deal, and in January he could force us to sell him to a direct rival or risk losing him to them for free in the summer. I’d bench him and play him in league cup/Europa league games. He’s a player… Read more »

Owl faced Deeney's cojones

Another one to send to Man U and get one of their players in return (Martial or Mata). We also have Nelson and Smith Rowe to replace him.

Martin

As it was Arsenal who rescinded the contract which Ramsey agreed to why is he a Judas?

Arseman

Ramsey gives 100% commitment very time he goes out onto the field. We all know he isn’t the best defensively, but let’s face it, most of our players aren’t very good defensively (including our defense!). Our contract guys are to blame for this situation. We’ve let far too many players get to the last year of their contracts. If you get an opportunity to get more money wouldn’t you take it? There’s no reason to call him Judas for this, he isn’t forcing his way out like some other cunts have. He even stated his desire to continue to play… Read more »

The contract guys are to blame for this situation. Far too many players have been allowed to go to the last year of their contracts. If there is a chance to get more money I’m sure most people will take it. And there is no reason to call him Judas. Ramsey gives 100% everytime he steps out onto the ground. He isn’t forcing himself out like some others who need not be named. Booing our own players is very cuntish behavior. I hope a fly goes into your mouth while you boo.

Martin

So many thumbs down for telling the truth. Why is Ramsey to blame?

myrtle

I am so impressed with Emery’s english by the way.

Rich

Hopefully we’ll see a front 3 of Welbeck, Aubameyang and Lacazette tomorrow, whilst my preference would be to drop Ozil, im not too fussed if Rambo misses out

Avo84

Those words look familiar. Like something our former manager might have said about a certain someone last season. We all know how that ended both for the team and the manager.
I don’t think statement like that is correct anyway. Because one way or another, whether to play out of his skin to get that big contract or to play with care to avoid injury because of that big contract he is anticipating. A player in the last year of his contract is always affected by the situation.

Maniac

It’s the beginning of a new era and the harsh truth is that we need to be ruthless when it comes to contract negotiations. I have no doubt that the club made a sensible offer to Ramsey and, if he decides not to take it or string the club along until a better offer comes then they are well within their rights to rescind it. We have plenty of players eager to make their mark in midfield and, if he’s not willing to commit, then we need to give them a chance to shine rather than try to appease him.

santori

There’s no issue.

Our only problem is Rwing.

We lack balance at the moment.

BUT the position Ramsey plays is the same one Ozil thrives best in as well.

Considering Ozil rarely sustains commitment through the entirety of 90 mins, Ramsey is still useful coming in to replace the German till we can rejig the squad in Jan when hopefully we will find better solution out right.

Till then, it may have to be Mhkitaryan probably the best option we have.

PeteyB

Not his normal slot but I wonder if Welbeck could be a right wing option. Manager suggested he did enough to come into contention. Mkhi is the more obvious choice certainly but Welbeck maybe a little more tenacious and robust. Or Iwobi could be given a shot from the right. Or Ozil stays right and Mkhi gets a shot in the middle. Or, or, or…. really hard to guess what Emery will do. Football is a funny old game and sometimes the magic formula is something accidental that doesn’t make sense on paper… like the Coqzorla partnership. Who saw that… Read more »

Monkey knees

I’m a bit taken aback for the vitriol i see for Ramsey, online, from Gooners. The chap has always tried his hardest. Runs all over the pitch, scores and assists… I’m baffled by the hatred.

And_Unai_Said...

Always felt Ramsey liked playing for Arsenal but even more for himself. Liked wearing the Arsenal shirt but loved the Wales jersey. Never felt he truly engaged with our fans even after the support given to him after being Shawcrossed by that neanderthal. So okay if he goes, but disappointed if he goes on a free.

Vonnie

Ramsey doesn’t score or assist as often as he should. He runs around a lot and shoots at goal a lot, loses the ball a lot and is an utterly selfish glory boy. I’m delighted that he’s going, we can now put a disciplined team player on the pitch, whether that’s a youngster or a new player it can only be an improvement, and Mesut can now play where he should be.

afan

because a lot of people on here know nothing about football, they just go by what other people tell them, they don’t use there own eyes to see

leroy

his performances will definitely be affected by his contract saga. it’s inevitable. but he said he wanted to try a new league at some point, and this is the best time for him to do it, from his point of view. if we didn’t lock him into a new contract last season, he should have been sold in the summer.

Devlin

Wow, how ruthless of the club. I guess they are changing the culture at the club of allowing players to dictate contract negotiations.

Ya gooner

There would have been fair warning, sign within 3 weeks or offer rescinded for example. Ramsey + agent must have thought they could play it out, if he wanted to sign he would have done. A shame but not a loss that can’t be replaced or upgraded on.

Ealing

It’s a good example for other players. Arsenal should have it as a rule. “This is our final offer, if you don’t sign it by a certain date, it’s automatically withdrawn. Thank you and good luck”

C.B.

He is in the shop window so will be very motivated to play well.

Whether we want to play him or others that will stay with us is another matter.

Thesoulofpdavis

Its obvious that the club has made a decision. Whether thats not being held to ransom or simply that we see a different path with players that fit the the bill for Emery. Its a decision. After years of dithering its about time. Ramsey has been a good player for us but he is just one player. We are are Arsenal. Its about time we started acting like it.

Ash

I agree. He is already playing at his worst, so …

Yellow Ribbon

Play Mkhitaryan instead of Ramsey. He is not all that special and he will learn it the hard way just like Sanchez did.

Martin

Why blame Ramsey? He agreed to sign the new contract but Arsenal took it off the table

Martin

It’s true so why the thumbs down?

afan

of course it wont, ramsey is a true pro, unlike some players

Lord Bendnter

Not this again…

Leno me, I’ll be your friend

Blogs, sorry this is unrelated, but if at all possible on the match previews/team selection articles, could you also mention what television channel the matches are on please? There’s been the odd game that have actually aired on tv in the past couple seasons that I wasn’t aware until too late I could have watched.
Cheers!

Leno me, I’ll be your friend

Also, slightly more ‘on-topic’, in the article’s image, it looks as though Ramsey is practicing his free-kicks but at the last minute Unai took the ball leaving Aaron to totally air-kick the ball. Now I’m no big shot, fancy pants, city slick detective, but I’d say that this is definite evidence of a rift between the two and probably the catalyst in a breakdown in contract negotiations. For reals.

DE Gooner

Guess we can question the validity of the title statement by Emery now?
