Danny Welbeck appears to suffer serious injury in Sporting clash

Danny Welbeck is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering what looked like a serious injury during the Europa League clash with Sporting at the Emirates this evening.

The striker was trying to get on the end of a cross from the right hand side, looking to put the Gunners ahead, but didn’t make enough contact to trouble the keeper. However, in the attempt he appeared to go over on his ankle, and after a lengthy spell of treatment during which he received oxygen, he was stretchered off in considerable pain.

Television didn’t show any replays, which is usually a bad sign, and he was replaced by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 31st minute.

As yet there’s no confirmation of what the injury is, but the reaction of some of the Arsenal players suggested it was quite serious.

Let’s keep fingers crossed it’s not too bad, but it does look as if he’s going to be out for a while, and at the time of writing he was being taken for an x-ray.

Hlebs dancing feet

Gutted for welbeck cause he was starting to really pick up his goal scoring. Third major he has had for us, if this doesn’t break your heart you don’t bleed red.

Amusa

Probably a very sad end to his Arsenal career.
Get well soon Danny. Unluckiest player I’ve ever known.

I’d say Diaby had even worse luck, but I agree that Welbeck has been incredibly unlucky with injuries. Hard to not feel for him.

Richard

or Rosicky…some potentially great players

Hantal

Another dose of misfortune just as he’s hitting form, he’s had an unfortunate few years with us. I hope he makes it back to play for us again

I like Danny, good hardworking honest players that adds something positive to this team especially in regards to enthusiasm and energy, going to miss seeing him play and feel he has been a key part in the positive rotation that Emery has been implementing – as have all our players!!! Get well soon Danny

Always awful to see a player go down in distress with a serious injury whoever they are. But when they are someone as likeable as Wele it is really hard to watch.
Depending on how serious the injury is, and it did look really bad, I wonder will it force Emery’s hand in recalling Nelson from Germany in January?
He would certainly give us another option in attack.

89 was fine

Really feel for him. he never complains just gets his head down and works so hard.such a well balanced human being and genuine nice guy. I so hope this is something he can over come and get back to playing football. Good luck Danny.

I am gutted for Welbeck! I remember being at the emirates for his debut against Man City. I hope there is somehow this isn’t as bad as i think, but the players reaction during the game means it could spell the end of his Arsenal career, with his contract ending this season.

Kostas

My goodness! Gutted for him.

Unfortunately I don’t think we gonna se him again in red and white.
I am very sad for him in a personal level but also as an arsenal fan because I truly believe he is a super sub.
Get well soon. Physically and mentally.

Ashburton Grove

I agree, really sad to this, he is a fantastic guy to bring on yes, but even starting, Danny has never let us down..
