Emery: There’s no secret to our unbeaten run

Unai Emery insists there’s no secret to Arsenal’s unbeaten run, he simply asks his players to focus on improving with each and every game.

While the Gunners may not have tasted defeat since the second game of the season, the Spaniard knows they still have much work to do if they’re to end the season with a top four finish.

As things stand, his squad sit fifth in the Premier League table, level on points with Chelsea and two points adrift of neighbours Sp*rs.

“I think we need [to do] more,” Emery told Arsenal.com ahead of Sunday’s clash with Southampton.

“I think our beginning is good, but at the moment in the table we are fifth and our mind is focused on being in the first four positions. I think we are doing our way and in one process improving, but the reality is that we need more.

“I think first our ideas and work with the players is to learn together. All of us can give everybody new ideas.

“I think the players are open to listening to us about our new tactical work with our analysis in videos. We need to do this work quickly, but we also need patience.

“I think at the moment we are doing that with good results, but as I said to you, we need more. We are improving step by step – and I think the players are also showing very, very good commitment and behaviour every day.”

The Gunners current 22-game unbeaten run is their best since 2007 when Arsene Wenger’s young squad went 28 without defeat. After a disastrous 2017/18 Premier League campaign that was pockmarked by 13 defeats – and led to the downfall of Arsene Wenger – the turnaround has been eye-catching.

“There is no secret,” replied Emery when asked about how he’s engineered such a turnaround. “The only thing is the next match.

“We’ve used the last matches to help us improve through our analysis. We can improve things individually and collectively, and also tactically and some things with the mentality. There is no secret in our way.

“We think only about the next match and prepare with our focus being very clear that we can progress and we can improve in the next matches.

“This development with us is clear with the players. We don’t want to think about the past, the most important thing is the present and the near future.”

I agree, we need to start improving by leading at half-time, defense is still sloppy, be more clinical with our chances. Mkhi and Iwobe need to contribute more with goals and assist. Mustafi needs to stop try to get a red card every game. Cut down on silly free kicks around the box. Beat Spuds by 3 goals next time!!

Thanks Santa!

Dude, you sound like we are in a winless 20game run man

Frog

Cool.

You’re right. It was very cool. Reminds me of Phil Collins “Sussudio”. Sums it up, deep down. Fuck man, not only do I have great taste in football clubs, but my tunes? Amazing. I get Sp*rs cunts don’t like Phil. Fuck them.

I think the 1-0 against Qarabag was the first time this season we led at halftime–an absolutely amazing statistic when combined with the unbeaten run. Last season, the amazing statistic–and the one that determined our place in the table–was the disparity between results home (as good as we are ever likely to have) and away (awful), and we seem to have solved that.

Longbow

No we’ve lead at half time in 4 of our Europa League games and also in the Carabao Cup. It’s the Premier League we’ve failed to finish the first half with a lead.

So we should turn more draws into victories. That means score goals earlier to take full control. That also means Laca to start with Auba and Iwobi coming in at 70th to defend upfront and keep the ball.

Gazidis brought in the right man for us. Had Wenger went earlier, we may not have got him. And he’s not gone and tried to reinvent the wheel. He’s kept what Wenger was trying to ahcieved but fine tuned what Wenger was allergic towards doing. Wenger as I have mentioned is like a mad inventor who’s built the genius engine but doesn’t know how to keep it from stuttering. Emery is the master engineer who has come and brought in the missing parts, tweaked it with attention to detail and got it to work to potential. The trick now is… Read more »

Gazidis clearly wanted Arteta so I am not too sure he was responsible for Emery coming here

baz00r

Who said Gazidis wanted Arteta? From what I understand it was a unanimous decision from all involved that they go with Emery?

Let’s assume City and Liverpool are not going to be caught, will we beat one of Sp*ds or Chelski to the top 4? I think Sp*ds new stadium will be a distraction and they’re one Kane injury away from some big problems. Chelsea are inconsistent so that’s why we should catch them.

3rd place this year would be a huge success. I’d even settle for 4th. Can’t wait to see what the Gunners will do with another transfer window or two. Find the Torreira of CBs, haha.

Timsh

The festive period will be crucial as always.
Fingers crossed but it will still be very very difficult to even come 4th.
I don’t want to get my hopes up just yet, until we have a nice cushion to whoever will be 5th

Cacho

With Sven and Raul and our scouting network having already “unearthed” Guendouzi and Torreira, I’m very confident in their appraisal of talent. The business they’ve done so far has been excellent, mixing bargain signings where there is very little risk with top quality experience has worked so well. Hopefully they can find the next Koscielny, and then hopefully the next Mbappe!

Nzini

The premier league landscape has definitely changed.I remember a few years back when Arsenal making the top 4 was almost a given.

Benriz

Top 6 is so much more competitive now. Actually the whole league is.

viegunner

i agree. it seemed almost impossible to drop below 5th – now 4th would really feel like an achievement

Emery in Aubalaca wonderland

Premier League should have 5 teams even 6 in CL. It became so much more competitive than other leagues. La liga has three clubs that can compare to PL top six, two huge clubs tough. France has one that can compare. Italy has two, Juve and only one out of Roma and the two Milan clubs. Germany has two that can compare.

viegunner

he is saying the right things, exactly what i want him to say. that’s kind of relieving. with wenger, it was often the case that i didn’t feel that way. no dig at aw, just kind of still new t feel the same as the boss

Chiza

I see a potential koulibaly in Zech Medley…. So exciting

TeeCee

“neighbours Sp*rs”?
Have we moved into the same caravan site or something?

Runzac

no they are homeless goblins remember

myrtle

No they’ve moved onto that patch of grass behind the Tesco express. dier’s rubbing sticks together and kane’s selling dvds of a 1-1 win.

Cacho

Unai is our guy! I love the always present grimace on his face as he looks on. He could do with some teeth whitening, but it shows that he’s never quite happy. He’s got that little bit of perfectionist in him I think which keeps him always striving to improve. That’s reflected in his press conferences too, which are delightful on their own.

Jack but

Wow

Stephen

Proper manger Emery so will be a fight T4 scrape in we will and push Spurs OUT ….. TOGETHER WE STAND …..
