Suarez glad to re-Unaited with Emery after Arsenal move finalised

New loan signing Denis Suarez says he pushed hard to make the move to Arsenal happen, and that he’s looking forward to working with Unai Emery again.

The 25 year old spent the 2014-15 season on loan at Sevilla, during a victorious Europa League campaign for the Spanish side and the current Arsenal coach, and he’ll team up with Emery once more for the remainder of this season.

Speaking to the official site after the transfer was announced, Suarez said, “I’m very pleased to be here and to be joining Arsenal. I’ve been pushing hard to come here.

“I’m finally here now and I’m really pleased.”

And on his relationship with Emery, he continued, “I have a very good relationship with him. I spent a year with him at Sevilla when we won the Europa League.

“I think he’s a very demanding coach and one of the best coaches in the world right now.

“That was my first year playing football at the elite level – my first year in the top division. I improved a lot as a player thanks to him. He really helped me.

“I think he was a big part of the reason I was able to go back to Barcelona after leaving on loan.”

The midfielder joins fellow Spaniards Nacho Monreal and Hector Bellerin at the club, and revealed the right-back had been in touch during the transfer window.

“I’ve spoken to Hector,” he said. “He wrote me a message when the rumours started to come out in the press about me joining Arsenal.

“I hope he can recover as soon as possible. It’s a shame that he’s injured because I’d love to play with him, but I’m sure he’ll be back soon.”

Suarez will wear the number 22 shirt.

Welcome Denis! If you are half as good as our previous Denis we will be very happy 🙂

Fatgooner

Nice to have a fresh pair of hands. We could really do with a quality winger to improve that wide creativity.

There’s still a few hours to go but WHERE THE HELL IS THE DEFENDER WE DESPERATELY NEED?

Not signing a fullback and/or centre back is crazy!!!!!!!!!!

berlingoon

We got 6 central defenders (Kosc, Sokratis, Mustafi, Holding, Mavropanos, Chambers) and 5 full backs (Monreal, Kolasinac, Bellerin, Lichtsteiner, Jenkinson) on our books. Unless we sell some of them, it would be crazy to bring in even more.

Where is the top four quality in there though?

Kwame Ampadu Down

Agreed there isn’t a lot of top quality in those defensive names but it is very hard to buy top tier players in January & we have loads of defenders. In attacking wide positions we are desperately low in numbers. Getting someone who can do a job out wide on loan is a great deal. I expect we will spend big in defensive positions in the summer. If we don’t then, I will have a right moan but for now we have to be realistic about what we can do. Suarez makes sense.

Crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¡!¡!!!!!!!!!¡!!¡!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unaited….exactly!!
I wont be surprise if he gets into the team straightaway and I wont be surprise also if Unai buys him outright comes end of season…probably Unai has decided that already!!
We need defenders BADLY…. and he goes out to get players who can be uniated with him at the expense of our alreasy present attacking players including Özil and Ramsey.
Im totally unimpressed at all

Alex

Unai has got his fan boy. It’s surely good for his bruised ego after his misadventures in Paris.

Red-Sky

And now all is left is to ship off the deadwood fringe players, like a certain fan darling.
I can’t wait for the summer.

footieblisters

misadventures where he won the domestic treble… i want those kinds of adventures please!

Kwame Ampadu Down

Amazing how Alex describes anything remotely negative that’s said about Ozil as ‘hate’ but has no problem saying much, much worse himself about other Arsenal players and our Manager.

Red-Sky

You should be informed enough to know that he said he wants a defender. Not his fault if the club can’t identify ‘loan’ players in that role as they are more difficult to come by.

I think you are missing th3 point of building a squad

IceBerg

Does this dude replace Ramsey? A box-to-box #8? Or is he more of a Xhaka-type? Or even an Ozil-type #10?

Mpls

From my extensive expert analysis via YouTube, he’s closest to a Ramsey / Jack-minus-cringeworthy-tackles-and-red-mist. Ball carrying, technical, drives forward. More middle of the park but some wing work.

No idea of his defensive game, but Emery seems to like him, ergo—

Why so much hatred. let’s give the kid a chance to prove himself and us a chance to form an opinion based on his performances. COYG

Jmkim

Who will he play ahead of, guendouzi alongside Torreira?

Mpls

I’m guessing he’ll be competing with Ozil and Ramsey, or on the wing.

Santori

There’s influence from Emery in the choice of BOTH Guendouzi and now Suarez. We may have issues at Cback but frankly we have compounded our defensive issues from midfield too. The balance between attacking and defending is where the middle needs to manage better. Also critically we do not have a player who can hold the ball in the middle like we did when wenger bought and converted Santi to midfield. Hopefully Dennis can bring this as we currently tend to try and pass out from defense at plenty of risk. Technically, Suarez is very tidy. Don’t believe the stats… Read more »

Would have been a great headline if you had added the word “be” or removed the d in “Unaited. Such a delicious pun

Santori

It certainly helps that Unai has some befores with Dennis but also Guendouzi.

These are the sort of intangibles less covered by those who prefer to harp on about stats.

Management is not a video game (As Neville, Henry found). There’s a lot of soft issues with man management that also come into play beyond hard tactics.

We are dealing with individuals that have to be melded together as a congruent unit.

They are not simply widgets.

Laca-Sead

Brilliant comment! Why thumbing down? Is that because he spelled Dennis instead of Denis? Santori you’re sharp as ever! Me like it.

Michael Farojoye

Welcome to Arsenal FC Denis we need you techniacal ability and pace on either side of the wings wherever the coach chooses to test/play you…if not to run defenders down and support our goal scoring machines in Auba and Laca.

You certainly have your work cut out for you…enjoy your stay bro…Gunners love….Gunners4 life!!!!
