Unai Emery has stressed the importance of tomorrow’s North London derby when we visit Wembley to take on Sp*rs.
Arsenal can cut the gap on the old enemy to just one point, which would drag them back into the battle for the top four, but the boss knows that he’s got to produce something special to achieve that.
The Gunners away record in big games has been poor in recent seasons, and making some progress there with three points tomorrow would feel really significant.
“I know I need to create a special moment and the past is not important,” he said.
“In football, the present is about how you create your future. We need to be strong and we need to be very concentrated over 90 minutes.
“When we get our chances, we need to be efficient in attacking moments against them.
“There were 10 points difference between us and Spurs two weeks ago. Now it’s four points so on Saturday it’s very important for both teams.
“It’s very different if you win or lose. This is a big opportunity for us to play with confidence in our moment.
“We want to play with confidence and also free in our minds, with a focus on our game plan.”
Emery wouldn’t be drawn on whether that game plan involves Mesut Ozil in the starting line-up, but the Spaniard knows this is going to be a much sterner test that we’ve faced in our last three games.
“Saturday is completely different and the adaptation is different for this match,” he said.
“We need to control the match in 90 minutes, but we know it will be very difficult to control all the time.
“So some moments is about being together and doing our work in the best possible way.”
Emet?
“In football, the present is about how you create your future.”. Obviously he’s been visiting the future to get some inside info on the opposition.
Either that or the next time Auba sprints at 88mph his feet will catch fire, he will disappear, only to reemerge at just the right moment to score a tap in…
Is “Emet” a reference to something or a typo. I can’t tell with Arseblog.
His maternal family name begins with -Et, so maybe that?
Back to the Future
Emet=Mesut-Emery mashup?
Great Scott!!
Come on!!!! Let’s do this together!!!
Emmet here thanks for writting an article about my hopes for the NLD. You missed the second M though ?
I hope we smash that scum and I’m sure Emery feels the same as me.
For the record a Lacazette hattrick would do nicel as a special moment but I’ll just take Trippier being really sad at the final whistle.
COYG!!
Unai Emet or Emet Emery?
Whatever it is, lets hope Emet has the plan for tomorrow, or else my weekend will be fucked before it starts
My wife works for Lego so I’m going with the assumption that this is a reference to Emet of Lego Movie fame ?. If that is indeed the case, then I sure hope that Unai Emet or Emet Emery is the master builder that we desperately hope for. COYG. Three points will go a long way towards making this a good first season for me even though I miss Le Prof so dearly.
I named my son Emmett and now my coworkers think I named him after the Lego Movie. COYG.
Enhanced mitigation experience technique
I think Emet is a nod to our club’s French history, and the shared Pyrenees border between Spain and France.
Apparently his full name is Unai Emery Etxegoien so that’ll be the answer. If he manages to pull off wins against Spores and then ManU , propels us towards finishing third this season and wins the league next season it will be Unai Emery Excellency in my book. 🙂
Podgytino has a big problem – he doesn’t know what is the best team AFC will put out. Our problem is nor does UE.
We can’t sit back too much against Spudz but neither can we go gung-ho at them or give away an early goal. I believe we have to play Ozil from the start though.
Ooops – headline typo corrected 🙂
bah humbug
Shame ;-(
The performance is secondary. The result is everything. Should we beat them I think they’ll finish 7th. They have it in them to be a masterpiece of implosion ?.
Laca with the moment of magic ❤️?
On paper this is our toughest league match left this season. Would a draw be a point well gained or two points disappointedly dropped?
A point would be a good result. If United win it leaves us only one point off them with us to face them at the Emirates and them also having to play Chelsea. I think a draw would be sufficient for our momentum too.

A title winning team looking to make 4 more additions!
I reckon we need a pacy LB +RB, a good dribbler on the right wing (unless we integrate Nelson or he can be an understudy), a box to box midfielder who’s good at dribbling to relieve pressure (it would be a bonus if he’s an excellent playmaker).
What is guendouzi likely to be? I reckon he’s a good playmaker but unlikely to be a good holding midfielder. Time will tell if we don’t cash in ?
Do we need another left back? I’m satisfied with rotating Kolasanic and Monreal and investing our limited funds in other positions.
Ramseys last ever north London derby. Hope he starts. 3-2 win. Goals to Ramsey, Laca and Auba off the bench.
It would be madness to start Aubameyang on the bench.
It is understandable and make sense if Emery put Auba on the bench for plan B/back up strategy. But if we put both him and laca from the beginning, it will surely make sp*rs think twice before they attack us.
Tough choice
He won’t be told to sit back down today!
Just heard today is Pochettino’s birthday, come on Arsenal let’s give him the perfect gift by beating Spurs!
