Emery provides update on Xhaka injury

Unai Emery has confirmed that Granit Xhaka didn’t partake in training today but he believes the Swiss should be fit for Monday’s clash with Newcastle United.

The midfielder picked up an adductor injury while on international duty with Switzerland in midweek but the problem isn’t believed to be serious. We had expected an update on the status of the 26-year-old in the weekly medical bulletin but there was no mention of him.

In his press conference this afternoon, the Spaniard maintained that Xhaka, alongside Aaron Ramsey and Dinos Mavropanos, who also missed today’s session, will be eligible for selection.

“We trained this morning and some players rested for giving them one day more to train with us tomorrow,” he said. “Aaron Ramsey, Dinos Mavropanos. They can be ready for Monday.

“Xhaka also rested today, we’re going to wait tomorrow and Sunday but the first previews from the doctor is that he can progress to be ready for Monday.”

Ramsey didn’t feature for Wales during the Interlull due to a thigh problem. Rather than join the rest of the non-international players for the warm weather trip to Dubai, he worked on his rehabilitation at London Colney.

We’re assuming Mavropanos picked up a slight problem in the 3-2 win over Al-Nasr.

Very good. We need them all for final push! I honestly belive we can finish 3rd and win EL

Freddy Fredericia

Why not ….. we have it in us …. Go Gunners !

Faroe Islands Gooner.

If we finish 3rd and win the EL. Would be great!! But if sp*ds finish fifth and take a CL spot because of us winning the EL. Then I rather have Napoli kick us out!

Tonerl

That can’t happen. The only way to finish outside the top 4 and get in is by winning either the UCL or UEL.

Goonereality

Good news if he’s fit for Monday. The coming EPL games and Europa League ties represent the most important few weeks that we’ve had in a while and we need everyone fit, and giving 100%.

Richie

The benefit of the game being moved to Monday; an extra 2 days for recoveries after the internationals.

Sue

Makes a change things working out for us!!

Nosferatu

I was getting worried the midfield would be down to Guedouzi, Elneny, and Willock, I guess?

That would be okay for the Disgusting Energy Drink Cup, but ooh, please not now.

Cdm995

Newcastle’s not until Monday? FFS this Interlul sucks.
