Katie McCabe Signs New Arsenal Contract

Arsenal midfielder Katie McCabe has signed a new long term contract with the club. The Ireland captain signed a new deal last summer, but has extended her terms once more after a season in which she has become one of Joe Montemurro’s most trusted players.

McCabe has played in every single match this season, the only player to do so. McCabe joined the club from Shelbourne in 2015 and spent time on loan at Glasgow City during the second half of 2017.

Since then, McCabe has imposed herself as a first team player, playing in a variety of positions- on the right, the left, the centre of midfield and at left-back. “We’re delighted that Katie has signed a new contract with us,” manager Joe Montemurro told Arsenal.com.

“She is a very versatile player, she is strong and creative, and her development throughout my time here has been very positive. I am looking forward to seeing her continue to grow and achieve with us.”

McCabe was delighted to sign a new seal and paid tribute to manager Joe Montemurro. “Speaking to Joe and hearing that he wanted to keep me for that bit longer was a great feeling,” McCabe told Arsenal Player.

“Joe’s been great for me personally and he’s really helped me to grow as a player. He’s put a lot of confidence in me and really helped me to develop. He’s given me a chance in the starting line-up which I’ve nailed down, but you can’t get too complacent.

“I’ve got to keep working hard and pushing – and hopefully over the next few years I can continue to do that and help this club win trophies. We’ve been hit hard with injuries over the season but I think when everyone gets back fit we’re really likely to do some damage over the next few years.

“Playing for Arsenal Football Club is all about winning trophies. We’ve shown that in the past and we’ve got a great history of doing that, and we’ve put ourselves in some great situations in cup finals and hopefully we can continue to do that.”

Well Done Katie! Great to see such talented and versatile players pledging their future to the club.

Good news!

Great call Joe! Katie has been a real asset this season and knowing that she is “wanted” can only boost her confidence further.
This is how to manage a team unlike what appears to happen in the men’s team where already highly paid players are allowed to drift to the end of their contracts and collect a huge pay rise by moving on leaving the club with nothing.

Well deserved Katie. As with all good sides it is the less publicised players like Katie (Lisa, Louise, Lia, Pauline,Sari, Dom, Kat, Janni) who are the engine room to success. The Invincibles had Gilberto & the Romford Pele a chief stokers. AWFC have a few more ☝
