Travelling squad for Napoli clash revealed

Arsenal have revealed the full travelling squad for tomorrow’s Europa League clash with Napoli.

The list is:

  • Petr Cech
  • Bernd Leno
  • Mohamed Elneny
  • Sokratis
  • Laurent Koscielny
  • Henrikh Mkhitaryan
  • Aaron Ramsey
  • Alexandre Lacazette
  • Mesut Ozil
  • Lucas Torreira
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
  • Ainsley Maitland-Niles
  • Alex Iwobi
  • Nacho Monreal
  • Shkodran Mustafi
  • Carl Jenkinson
  • Matteo Guendouzi
  • Sead Kolasinac
  • Granit Xhaka
  • Eddie Nketiah
  • Arthur Okonkwo

Denis Suarez is ruled out because of a groin strain, but there’s no place in the squad for Stephan Lichtsteiner who was not listed as one of the injury hit players and appears to have just been left out.

The Gunners take a 2-0 lead into the second leg, knowing that scoring once will mean the Italians have to score four times to qualify because of the away-goals rule.

Can we be confident? Your predictions/thoughts in the comments please.

Sensing a five at the back then… But with Emery it’s just hard to predict his line-up or tactics. Hoping we get the precious away goal(s)….. COYG

Rambozil

Very confident ???

Don’t Forget

I think we put ourselves into a smart position. I’m confident for the match but I think the first ten minutes and the ten minutes before halftime will be our biggest opportunities to struggle. Stay strong Arsenal!

C.B.

Lots of good players on the pitch and the bench. Let’s hope one of their players does a Deeney.

Or our away form transforms.

Wankster

No Sokratis?

Steve Bould's Morning After Reflection

He’s 4th on the list

Stephen

Your blind or drunk. Or blind drunk.

Canon Fodder

‘You’re’!

VoiceofReason

Also no Mavropanos.. was hoping it would be him instead of Mustafi. Hopefully kos and Monreal can negate Mustafi as well as Insigne…

Santori

Mavropanos instead of Mustafi even if hie ineligible plus Mustafi led the team last match in clearances, aerial duels, duels and intercepts.

Meanwhile Mavropanos bounces off Gray.

Billy Bob

Well we do have Kos AND Sok available in centre defense which makes me feel more confident, can’t say I liked Mav against Watford – that was freaking scary!!!

Oliver G

Where is Sokratis?

Oliver G

Glad to see you updated it

Steve Bould's Morning After Reflection

4th on the list

Oliver G

Not in the original post here, hence why so many wondered where he was. But Arseblog updated the list.

Goonerrific

For me –

Cech, Maitland Niles, Koscielny, Sokratis, kolasinac, Xhaka, Torreira, Ramsay, Ozil, Lacazette, Aubameyang

Play to our strengths….

Blackadder

Unless I’m going blind Sokratis isn’t on that list…

Goonerrific

Fuuuuuuuck ?

Anonymarse

List is wrong surely

Goonerrific

Some shady editing I think. – but he’s there now! ?

Steve Bould's Morning After Reflection

He’s 4th on the list

myrtle

He’s not on the list until he’s on it. That’s how it works.

Cycs

Ur going blind…?

Joe

Nearly blind bro

Anne Noyd

No, not enough width for me.

Goonerrific

To be fair Anne, I’m more focused on length than width.

AmericanGooner

If that’s what you need to tell yourself…

Goonerrific

Was a joke mate, you know, a play on words….

Richie

I think it’ll be a 0-0 draw. Then onto Valencia in the semis…..

Nameless_Gooner

Who’s Okwankwa? Position?

Bergkamp Nou

Okonkwo is just there in case things fall apart.

Chidi

Hats off!

Elliot Ness

Good one 😉

SilverPearl

Brilliant!!!

Hi-brid

Keeper.

martin

Goalkeeper

Nameless_Gooner

Should play 3 at the back..

Steve Bould's Morning After Reflection

I think the players have taken confidence from what was in reality a shaky clean sheat, but they will still take pride from it, especially given the changes during the match. Confidence and belief play a big part in top level sport.

Bob

He’s 4th on the list

rambo

Socratis isn’t on the list!

goonero

Maybe Lich has unofficially retired?

Santori

Mslintat wasted money on Lichsteiner and Mhkitaryan.

Overloaded the wage bill with players not terribly useful.

Instead of Panic buy we are now in the Panic loan era.

AmericanGooner

Apologies, Santori, but I must disagree. Mkhi hasn’t been as good as his Dortmund days, but he has been much better lately. He’s also been a million times better than Alexis in fairness.

As for Lichsteiner, while I can see your point, my personal theory is that he was brought in for cover to Bellerin, yes, but that wasn’t the only reason. He was also brought in to help bring along aspects of Bellerin’s game that are lacking (such as meaningful crosses) in order to abide Bellerin’s progression to becoming a world class fullback.

Hi-brid

I wouldn’t say confident, but I do think we can score and restrict them to < 4. We need to remember that we can score at any stage and not let our heads drop if we don't score first.

Santori

So no quadruple for Schitty.

Hopefully Messi (cough Barca) annihilate Liverpuddle.

And young Ajax dismember bloody Spurts.

Lets do the business in the europa. Nothing can be taken for granted. The away goal will be critical.

Brian Al-Hisyam

Yes we can get a result, why not ? Emery will have the team up for this one, make no mistake ! What price Arsenal v Chelsea in Baku !

Ash

We must get an away goal, so my team is 5 at back. Torreira, Xhaka, Ozil, Laca and Auba

hustle6

Us going through by any means necessary (ominous tone) and simultaneously chelsea going out really would be something special.

I know we got a good record vs Chelsea in finals but…eh I dunno.

Tapps

For me, a back three of Sokratis, Koscielny and Monreal. Koala-snatch and AMN at wing-back. Xhaka and Torreira as the central pivot. Rambo playing box-to-box. And Laca (player of the season) and Auba up top. Plenty of room on the bench for those that can change the shape and/or the dynamic, if needs be. An early goal for us, and I see us winning comfortably. An early goal against us, and I can see us shitting ourselves.

Mr_Natterjack

3-1 Napoli. We’ll do it the hard way.
