Arsenal face a third season in the Europa League, and today the draw for the group stages were made.
The Gunners will face: Eintracht Frankfurt, Standard Liege and Vitoria S.C, having been drawn in group F.
We have never faced the German or Portuguese sides in competitive action, so it’s new opposition.
In 2009/10 we faced the Belgians in the Champions League, winning 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Samir Nasri and Denilson; while we won the away game too, 3-2 victors with strikes from Nicklas Bendtner, Thomas Vermaelen and Eduardo.
In 1993, on the way to winning the European Cup Winners Cup we won 7-0 in Belgium, and 3-0 at Highbury.

Fixture dates/times will be finalised later today.
The German team are Frankly quite good, we should be Victorious against the Portuguese, and the Belgian team are sub Standard.
Nothing more to be said.
Thankfully we didn’t Qarabag ourselves another tricky trip to Bacu
I was personally concerned about enduring more BATE banter.
Had to work through quite a few jerks, but we mastered BATE eventually.
Couldn’t let you go home empty handed..
I see what you did there – fair enough 🙂 thumps up from me
O, pardon me, my Liege!
Depressing competition. Now it is 3 years running of torture.
I hope this is the last time we ever have to play in it.
If we don’t qualify by top 4 or win the final, then might as well finish 8th.
….and have a couple of million less (from our PL finishing place) to spend on signings the following year? Also, No TV money coming in for the following year from playing in Europe? I’m happy you don’t work for the Club.
what is it, 20 to 30 million?
I would consider throwing it away if it meant taking top 4 more seriously. And Having a single target to aim at.
Last season climax was an embarrassment. All because the team thought they had the EL final cushion.
Again… thank goodness you don’t work for the club.
Of course, if we actually won the damn thing last time, we wouldn’t have to worry about playing in it now! I also don’t think our inability to finish in the top 4 last season can be put down to being in the EL either.
It had an impact. In part the number of games to be played, the way Emery managed his player, the pressure… you can’t completely separate the impact of EL on the EPL.
there were extra fixtures, but losing 4 out of 5 – (then drawing Brighton!), including a stretch of yielding 3 goals in each of 3 matches was not down to EL. To think we were 1 point out of 4th and 2 from 3rd – against sides that were still in EL/CL – makes me sick as to how we limped to the finish in the league.
Actually, it was Emery, not “the team” that took that really dumb decision to (very unnecessarily) put all our eggs in the Europa final basket. 4th place was ours to lose with a handful of matches to go. Matches that included Crystal Palace and Brighton at home.
Maybe they were just shit.
Maybe we should get relegated so we can have a good chance at the championship trophy next season…
torture. hahahhahahahahahahaha
its not ideal, but some perspective…
Yes, because ‘might as well not be in the Champions League has worked out ever so well for us..
You’d think by now we would all see that dropping out of those competitions and losing the associated monies makes a big difference. What we need is to be back in the CL, for the money and the prestige that attracts the talents we want.
And that’s it.
So sad we don’t get a nice long journey to the Ukraine or some such exotic holiday destination.
Or Baku?
I had honestly never even heard of Baku before last year and I consider myself pretty freaking good at Geography. So much so that I’d say Baku isn’t even in Europe…so…Fuking UEFA!
[No offense intended to any Bakunians, especially if they’re Gooners]
Germany, Belgium, Portugal, from a logistical stand point, it really couldn’t have gone much smoother.
Frankfurt took Chelsea all the way to penalties over 2 legs last season, but did sell their star man to Madrid this summer, but we should get through relatively unscathed, whilst keeping our squad fresh.
Would be great to go one step further this season, we’re overdue a piece of silverware, and it’s likely our best shot
Isn’t that where West Ham got Haller from? I believe so, and he was another one of their main men. I could be wrong though.
At least we don’t have to fly very far like Man U. I’m not too depressed about the group. Of course I would rather be facing Champions League competition. But if we must be in the Europa this year, at least let’s get some youngsters on the pitch early on.
Underrated German city where Hotdog sausages were invented, nice Belgium town, UNESCO world heritage city in the middle of Portugal? I’m fucking delighted
Hi guys. Can someone give me some tips on how I can get a ticket a the away support end for the match at Frankfurt?
Living in Germany, this is the best opportunity for this fan to see Arsenal live for the first time 🙂
I’d love to know this as well 😀 it would take me 2 hours to get there but everything for the Arsenal.
You’re probably better off getting home tickets
Actually they are now sold out, and Arsenal hasn’t put the possibility to buy tickets for Europa League games so it really looks gloomy for us.
Perhaps through the local Arsenal Supporters’ Club, if there’s a branch? That’s how I got to attend the match against Ludogorets. The Club provided quite a few tickets to the fan clubs in the area (Bulgaria + all countries surrounding it).
I have tried contacting Arsenal Germany. Let’s see what they respond. When I contacted them a couple of years ago, they didn’t respond.
so finally i will be able to watch ARSENAL vs Frankfurt in Germany. I can’t wait to see that match. COYG
How can we buy the tickets at the away end?
Yeah I’m in too…how do we do that?!
Where are you living ? I live in Oldenburg
Braunschweig
I dont know yet but I will buy the ticket at any price. Cant just missed this game as long am healthy and God’s willing
So the main question is where are we playing the final this year?
Gdansk, Poland.
We’ll be Danzig in the streets if we win
Decent that they’re not too far destinations. Man U have to go Kazakhstan and Serbia lol. I look forward to the Europa draw. If you’re actually from London there’s not much better than meeting up with the gang after work, getting hammered in highbury, all going to the match together, sitting together for only £10 each and loudly support the team in a half full stadium against some farmer team. It may seem pathetic to some of you, but it’s awesome. There were many times in the past 2 seasons I’ve had a proper barney on the Thursday, struggled a… Read more »
Kazakhstan hasn’t even got a toe in Europe?
Last year the EL felt like the competition for us to be in to win it. This year it feels like we belong in the CL.
Arsenal in the Europa League is like Caviar on toast.
without the toast…..
5th place in last years league table says otherwise. Let’s wait for more than 3 matches before making asumptions on where the team is at.
Pretty decent draw with no ridiculous travelling so far.
Eddie McGoldrick??
Underestimation is an eternal curse, not only for Arsenal. It’s so easy to think “they are only a mid table team nobody have heard of”, while they are professional football players, in their prime, training every day and having probably done that for ten years or more.
