Emery: I like Guendouzi’s anger

Unai Emery says he likes the anger Matteo Guendouzi transmits when he’s not selected because he knows when the Frenchman does play he’ll get total commitment.

As was the case against Sp*rs three weeks ago, the France midfielder again inspired Arsenal to bounce back from a two-goal deficit as we beat Aston Villa 3-2 despite having 10 men for 49 minutes.

Having provided a stunning assist for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the North London derby, this time Guendouzi won a penalty that Nicolas Pepe scored to level things 1-1. The 20-year-old went on to hit the post with a long-range effort as he roused the Emirates with a rip-roaring performance that drove his teammates to victory.

After the game, Emery was asked about the youngster’s attitude.

“With Matteo, last year when he came here he progressed and he is progressing,” said Emery.

“Really I like that spirit he has, he has talent but above all his attitude, his energy, his commitment and his behaviour.

“He’s one player who is angry when he is not playing but I like that.

“I like that player because when they are angry they are asking you to play, when you decide that they play today they know they have a commitment to give what you need and he is one player, he is improving.

“I want to be calm with him, he is humble and continuing improving and growing up with us.”

If you like anger, play like that at old Trafford and watch aftv after.

Mesut O’Neil

We’d still win even playing like that as they are even more of a shambles than us

db10s

Even when they are worse off. We still barely manage to get a result at OT

Danny

No real arsenal fan would watch that shite.

Dimitar

That makes a whole lot of sense

XansiXas

Pointless snobbery. They do a bunch of stuff apart from the interviews, they’ve had everyone from Ian Wright to John Bercow and John Lydon on there. Even Aubameyang and Lacazette have been on there, and they both regularly interact with the channel!

Troopz, one of their regulars, is featured in the latest version of FIFA. I could go on. In fact, Arseblog himself has been interviewed by AFTV! But by all means, please keep hating an independent platform which has provided an important platform for fellow fans, while judging who the real fans are from your judgmental pulpit.

haaaaaaaaaa

You must be about 13 to like AFTV.

Rezatron

Haven’t missed Rambo since this lads stepped up..

Spursarewank

Why the downvotes? Ramsey decided benchwarming for 400k a was better than working hard and propelling Arsenal forward himself. I couldn’t care less about him anymore. But I do appreciate what he did when he was one of us

Berlingoon

Rambo scored in his first start for Juve when they were 0-1 down. Absolutely miss him. As a player and as a man. But Guendouzi is going to be a legend. He reminds me of Beckenbauer in terms of his elegance and the way he runs. Massive talent. Already a leader of this team and still sooo much room for improvement.

Longbow

I still wish that he would come back to us, when his contract runs out with Juve. I miss the guy too much. He was the only one in our squad who was worthy of the captain’s armband.

karl

I do miss him, but on those wages he wouldn’t be worth it. Aaron just won’t make a full season unfortunately.

Arif

Not missing him on the field, the young ones are doing a terrific job, BUT he was awesome when he was with us and definitely a leader …. thinking aloud, we don’t miss Mesut too much too. He was on the bench yesterday and nobody thought of him … has he outlived his value with us? A gr8 player, who just could not come to terms with us, or vice versa!

Clueless Head Coach

Also there’s a certain mercurial German playmaker so angry at not being able to play regularly despite being the leading goal creater in the last few seasons. I wonder if that anger get to the boss too.

Thierrys_Tears

I hope he was angry with himself for snoozing on the first goal. Otherwise he was solid.

Hurensohn

He definitely needed told about that run though. Not 100% his fault.

Gunnerlocutor

Humble? That would not be my first adjective to describe him. But I don’t care. If he can keep playing like this and get even better he will be entitled to be a bit cocky. We sure needed his self-confidence and desire to win today.

TorontoGunner

He was our best player although I think he’ll play better with Willock next to him. When the going got tough, He stood up. You could see that he wanted it so much. What a performance, can’t remember the last time one of our players took the game by the scruff like this and turned it on!! Mr Commitment

Sachin

His passion and dynamism makes Xhaka look even poorer than he is. O Matteo!

Number one penny

When you use the phrase Mr. Commitment I remember bacary sagna. Such an amazing player.

Rosicky. Flamini. The traitor RVP. Fabregas. Benayoun.Giroud. lacazette. Willock seems to have some of that DNA coming out. Monreal. Eduardo. Gilberto. Parlour. Freddie. Viera. Sol. Db10. Pires. Fabianski. Craziest keeper we’ve had. Few more.

Hope saka has the same mindset as guendozi. Patience from fans will go along way.

Niles should stop being crucified. We need a back RB and let him fight for the position he wants. He’s work is cut out for him.

mike1h

more crazy than jens lehman…?!

Malaysian gunner

Where would Emery be without this guy?He was all over the place and kickstarted the recovery.
As the injured players returned to action,I expect the gunners to improve
the defence. Failure is not an option.
There are no guarantees in the soccer world. The Man U manager is under pressure
following the WH loss. I wouldnt be surprised if he is out by Xmas.
The same goes for Emery if results are not forthcoming, I believe the board aint
going to be so benevolent having tolerated Wenger for so many empty years.

myrtle

Empty years is what the spuds have had up the road. I wouldn’t describe 3 fa cups in 4 years that way. Disappointing, but not empty.

C.B.
Voice of Reason

His attitude reminds me of a young fabregas

Tim

Agreed. Cesc had the same mixture of talent, anger, passion and the ability to drag us to a win when we were playing shite.

Malaysian gunner

I am bothered by the stats. AV had 14 shots with 9 on target. Against atop team,Arsenal could have easily conceded 3 or even 5 goals. As for Niles he says he aint a fb.
Of course the md is cluttered so he may have no option but to play there. He needs backup in a one on one.
As for Abu,he deserves to play for a team challenging for honours.Of course no one is indispensable. He maybe the exception as his goals have rescued Arsenal many a time.So Arsenal better offer him the payrise he deserves .

Mesut O’Neil

Guess the only stat that matters is the 3 points!!!!!!

Sarge

Play with the same intensity and desire as we did when down to10 men from the start every match and we might stand a chance to get a CL spot. We need the senior players to step up. Incredible that it took a 20 year old to drive the team across the finish line.

Prakhar

I used to think he was slightly defensively weak in his first season. But his positives far outweigh any negatives. Perfect player to join an athletic defensive midfielder in the double pivot.

Should be more careful with that young hot aggression when already on a yellow. But that will come with time. We got a fan favorite on our hands.

Santori

He genuinely looked upset the second half. Did some decent passes first half, some errant ones. BUT felt stung by whatever happened in dressing room, came out fired up. i don’t feel Willock or Torreira added any new capabilities coming on. BUT what they did add was energy because we were understandably chasing the game with ten men. Granit has also played a lot of games through an injury so not sure why some fans would construe him as an issue. he got forward well enough, played some decent balls quickly. BUT I did feel we were risking it with… Read more »

Oooh Kinky

Pat Fried Rice with Egg

Gonna upvote this cause I distinctly remember this line from Ricky Gervais’s The Office

jon

Guendouzi still has a lot to learn – he is too arrogant when the team plays out from behind, not making himself sufficiently visible to team mates. He also should stop diving. But through his quick reactions and good ball control, excellent understanding of the play, optimism and bravery, he is the future of Arsenal. He is also he future captain.

George

I’d like to see all our players a bit more pissed off from the get go.

Omsuley

I’ll say it quietly, but, have we finally found the new Viera?

shaka

he likes doozi….we all know that….emery likes doozi.
