Loved the bit where he pointed to his head and heart. Could see him doing that to the boys at halftime and he’s spot on. No sign of fatigue tonight.

In Arteta We Trust

I really enjoy watching Artetas press conferences. Everything he says really hits home and makes so much sense.

Really I am on board. He speaks so well! Fully fully behind Mikel. Passionate, considered, human. Big thumbs up

As mentioned before…jury still out.

Arteta’s biggest issue is being able to sustain performances. As was Unai’s and Wenger before him.

We’ve milked the odd big victories over Chelsea with Wenger and recently over United with Arteta.

But then slumped to anonymous performances with the likes of Sheffield or Southampton etc.

Motivating this team over one match or two is not a big deal. We’ve seen Solskjaer and Lampard do likewise get a string of strong results and ‘response’ from the team then slide to checkered performances thereafter.

The sort of manager that Ferguson was of course difficult to find these days, someone who would push you to an inch of your life in order to extract a result even with a mediocre bunch of players.

AND have to say was impressed by first half performance of Bielsa’s very well drilled team yesterday. You would not know they were in the Championship which is fast closing the gap on the PL again.

BUT second half Arteta must have busted out his proverbial hairdryer (and looks like a strong one judging by his hair…he will need it in months to come).

…the team responded from their complacent stupor, marked much tighter, pressed in unison and critically moved forward in numbers.

And our superiority in individual capabilities told.

This team, as much as we have unaddressed deficiencies in many areas is still punching far below its weight. It should be capable of much better.

Arteta will need to crack the whip as much as he offers carrots to certain players otherwise we will easily drop back to our usual slack attitude.

We are not a slick team overnight just bc we got one over United. Too many fans here guilty of the same malaise suddenly imagining a transformed team by Arteta when clearly there are still many long term issues yet to be resolved.

First and foremost is we need to sustain effort over TWO halves. Then we need to repeat this over a spate of games. Wenger and Unai have had us on 10 game unbeaten runs before so Arteta has plenty of work to do.

Many positives as usual but we need replication. And it will do well to remind both fans and players we are far from where we want to be yet.
