Bellerin promises tree-planting binge for every Gunners win

Hector Bellerin has promised to plant 3,000 trees for every Arsenal win during the remainder of the season as he steps up his commitment to raising awareness of environmental issues.

Given we’re definitely going on a 10-game winning streak in the league and then winning the FA Cup, it means he’ll be planting 39,000 trees at some point. We hope he’s got some decent gardening gloves.

Speaking about joining forces with the charity ‘One Tree Planted’, Hector said: “As a child growing up in Barcelona, I spent a lot of my with my Grandad in his garden planting trees and playing in forests so it’s an issue very close to my heart.

“When I saw the great work that One Tree Planted do, not just the planting of the trees but within the communities as well, I knew it was something that I wanted to get involved in.

“I hope that by doing this and using my platform, others will see how important it is to look after our world and donate to a cause which really effects us all.”

The Spain international also wants you to know that 4,500 acres of forest are cleared every hour leading to catastrophic effects on wildlife, ecosystems, and weather patterns.

Hector has never been shy to speak his mind when it comes to issues close to his heart. As well as promoting environmental causes and veganism, he’s also used his various social media channels to raise money for the vulnerable during the Covid-19 lockdown and to share useful resources to help people educate themselves about the Black Lives Matter movement. He also had some choice words for the Conservative leader in the build-up to the last election.

All in all, he is a good lad. And a versatile one.

In no particular order, our right-back has, in the last 12-months, designed our club suits, starred on the catwalk for Louis Vuitton, grown his hair, shaved his head, been the first team’s PFA rep and fought back from a nasty ACL injury to score a lovely goal against Chelsea.

Here’s hoping he plays without fir as we conker Man City tonight. A win would definitely make him even more poplar. Yew’d love to see it.

Vonnie

Hector on my shirt for sure next season, my tenner for trees is already done.

Sank

May we win so many mathces that there isnt a place on earth left except for our stadium

Gudang Bedil

If our opponents love the Earth, surely they will let us win.

Andrew

Alternatively, they could win, then use the emoney they earned to plant trees themselves.

Artetas Assistant

The idea is they already had less noble plans for their money so they’ll just lose a match each ??

Rohan

He really is the worst. Just a sanctimonious know-nothing.

arseblog

Maybe – and I’m just throwing this out there – if you’re the kind of person who has objections to someone to doing good things, you might actually be the worst.

OsloGooner

I always had massive respect for Bellerin. He is
always ready to help people and defend causes that he belives in.

Not many players speak up about issues that exist. And do not forget all the stick he got for supporting Pride, and even having long hair..

I mean come on people, do you really think long hair makes you a bad fotballplayer??

I love that Arsenal accepts everyone for who they are, and I you can’t handle that then this isnt the club for you.

Vince Parsnips

What a pointlessly shit thing to say.

KongoKim

pure bait

Artetas Assistant

You’re the guy from the other day aren’t you? ?? You need a new happier perspective buddy ????. Life isn’t the shit you’ve perceived. I’m sure those around you aren’t happy because you choose to see the grey everytime and of course share your sad reality with whoever cares to listen. Really, Try Empathy bro. To be happy even if you think the world is shit, choose the ? ? . It’s really just a choice

Richie

Tree-mendous gesture, but unfortunately, I think Arsenal will lose tonight tree-nil.

Gutbukkit Deffrolla

Richie, there are ways to use tree puns, and then there are ways you should nut.

Richie

Tree-nil, called it!

Emilfromsweden

Good for him and the planet but i started visting arseblog because i wanted to read about arsenal. As a football club. It’s to much about politics and politic adjacent stuff and juxtaposing arsenal stuff next to it. You’ve become what i thought you werent when i started reading the blog. Its the same shite as corporate media. Which is too bad. I used to like you guys. Use your plattform however you want but i started visiting because you wrote about arsenal and im leaving because you are writing about political causes.

arseblog

We are sorry about trees.

Jarghs

Think more carefully about how you use your David Plattform in future. Tsk.
Down with this sort of thing, etc.

Emilfromsweden

Its more about the reason most of us watch football – escapism. Football is not political. Politics is, and ibviously there is football politics (as in all corporations) but that is still arsenal. You are obviously sympathize with the left, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. This article isn’t horribly political but the your political view stuff comes through om most of the stuff you write. My point is that there are already plenty of forums for politics. And there is a huge divide in opinions in those forums; but we are here because we are arsenal fans. And… Read more »

Also, pretending that politics and sport don’t/can’t mix is like burying your head in the sand.

In an ideal world that might be true, but it’s not reality. Look at what Marcus Rashford did this week, using his platform as a footballer.

You might not like it, but it doesn’t mean football and politics should never mix. Particularly when that combination is to make things better or do good things.

Emilfromsweden

Well if you concede that it would be true in an ideal world why not act in favour of that? And I think its more of a category issue. Footballers are obviously entitled to do what they want in the political sphere, but those who are interested in that should read about it in the political pages since the topoc at hand is politics not football.

Emilfromsweden

Thats a disingenious strawman argument.

arseblog

Oh, so now you hate straw.

Dimma

But he’s an Arsenal player talking about Arsenal winning? Just with trees involved too! This is a ridiculous comment. That’s like saying ah i wish marcus rashford just played football and didn’t campaign for people in need. Also, theres not a lot of news surrounding Arsenal at the moment, so what’s blogs meant to do? Just write nothing?

Ive been visiting this site for a number of years now and blogs, your doing great!

kaius

Both Hector and Marcus Rashford are responding to the abject failure of political leaders many years their senior.

Funnily enough the kind of person who thinks “football is getting too political” is the kind of person who probably votes for those rubbish politicians

Gutbukkit Deffrolla

Had to get your own political statement out before you go though, eh Emil?

Emilfromsweden

Where is my political statement?

KongoKim

i think i already said it here 10x times….Football is imminent poltical. its deluded to think its just about 22 guys chasing a ball. What “agenda” is it if u think reforest the planet is a good thing?
Writing about the arsenal players who have a postive impacts on society is very much about arsenal. Im proud of having Hector in our team and not paolo di canio.

Artetas Assistant

PDC Probably wants to chop a couple trees down per win ??

Artetas Assistant

The world isn’t all shit son, choose to see different, be happy and positive. We need all the trees we can get

Mpls

With ‘Ector at the ‘elm I’d love to see him plant a corker and leaf olive those City sons of beeches pine-ing on their ashes.

Arsene's Zip

Branching out in to puns are we? Rooted in the story though.

Obama Young

I’m pining for Arsenal wins. Who would win, red or light blue? Redwood.
We have victory in the palm of our hands.
Let’s win by a larch amount, we really need to spruce up our record.

Jarghs

This is the sort of tree punnery I’m here for, but leave (!) some for the rest of us…

John

Tree points tonight wood be oakay with me.

truj

Giving 3k pints of beer is better, but he knows…

Qwaliteee

It’s a good job Mustafi didn’t promise it for every goal he gives away – there wouldn’t be enough space on the planet to plant them all.

Russ

A few people really ‘barking’ at the wrong tree here today…
