Luigi Gaspar eager to impress for Arsenal U18s

The new intake of Arsenal scholars ahead of next season was confirmed this week and one of the most notable inclusions was that of Luigi Gaspar.

The son of former Arsenal midfielder Edu, Luigi made the switch to Arsenal last year from Corinthians.

During his first season at the club Gaspar played for the U16s and he fared rather well but in 2020/21 he will face a tougher test as he seeks to make an impact for the U18s.

Effective at breaking up play and playing neat passes to his team-mates, Gaspar has adapted well at Arsenal.

Given the amount of talented youngsters at the club, however, he may initially have to be patient for playing time, with the likes of Charlie Patino and Mauro Bandeira expected to start ahead of him for the U18s.

As the season progresses, though, Gaspar is likely to become increasingly involved, and it will be intriguing to see how he develops.

Preparations for the new season haven’t exactly gone to plan for Arsenal U18s as they aren’t even back in training yet, but it is anticipated that the situation will change soon.

This is a very talented group of youngsters, with the likes of Charlie Patino and Marcelo Flores (also midfielders) perhaps the standout prospects.

I’m still concerned about his respiratory problems…

If he has any problems, his brother Mario will save the day.

Breaking up play and neat passes, sounds a lot like his father, hopefully he isn’t totally left footed 🙂

In all fairness, Edu was a very good player for us and it was a shame he left when he did. We really could have done with him for another 4 or 5 seasons
