Arsenal Women have signed Swiss defender Noelle Maritz from Wolfsburg ahead of the 2020-21 season. Maritz was born in the US before moving to Switzerland when she was 10 years old. She is an international teammate of Gunners midfielder Lia Wälti and fellow new signing Malin Gut.
Maritz has played for Wolfsburg since 2013, winning the Champions League in 2014 and the Frauen Bundesliga title in 2013-14, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20. The 24-year old has 74 Switzerland caps and can play in both full-back positions. She will bolster the defence with Emma Mitchell and Katrine Veje having left the club this summer.
So many great memories with @NoelleMaritz here at #VfLWolfsburg. ?

Maritz joins Steph Catley, Lydia Williams and Malin Gut in North London this summer with one more player likely to follow in this window. Maritz will wear the number 16 shirt.
“We’re ecstatic to have a player of Noelle’s calibre at the club,” Joe Montemurro told Arsenal.com. “She’s been on our radar for the last six months because she’s very proactive going forward, but again, she’s another player that’s played in Champions League finals and big games. She really suits the kind of player that we want at this club.”
“I’m really excited and so happy that I can play for such a huge club,” said Maritz. “I honestly can’t wait to just get started now and meet all of my new teammates. This is a whole new challenge for me and I feel like it’s a great step in my career and development.”
Tim, thats the fastest article yet I think. Impressive! With Noelle, Steph, Leonie and Lisa we have the best collection on fullbacks in the league :). And no – Bronze and Greenwood to City won’t change that.
This one has been in drafts for a while!
City may get Bronze and Greenwood but our back-up and second back-up in each position with Katie and Lisa filling in are all full internationals too. Looks like Joe is answering his critics regarding the squad depth this summer.
Welcome, Nöelle Maritz!
WOW! Am I the only one impressed by a player leaving Wolfsburg with a string of winners medals proclaiming how excited she is to be joining a “huge” club in North London?
No, you are not the only one!
Welcome to the club!
Another great signing. I’m loving what Montemurro and his team are doing with signing players who are experienced, have a winning mentality and (for the most part) have an age profile that means we can really build something special in the next few seasons.
