Arsenal won a game of football. It was nice.

We scored three good goals. Emile Smith Rowe opened the scoring from a Bukayo Saka cross for his first Premier League goal for the Gunners. Nicolas Pepe then curled one into the top corner to double the lead, and although West Brom scored in the second half, a remarkable thing happened.

Willian scored a goal. His first since joining last summer. And it was a very tasty free kick into the top corner in the finals stages to secure all three points and send West Brom down to the Championship.

Here’s how the players rated this evening.

Watching Ceballos run after Pereira for WBA’s goal was like watching a captain solemnly going down with his sinking ship

Andy

i know ceballos has his issues but he is still only 23 and today he was the one who took the game by the scruff of the neck in the first half and tried to make things happen. not his fault he lacks pace to keep up with one of the best attacking players in the PL in a 40 yard foot race. i have to say arseblog is going down the tubes with it’s childish levels of analyis. i’ll be spending most of my time in future with the athletic.

I miss Bergkamp

He appeared disinterested in the game. Every time he got the ball he stopped our progress. One time he had the ball with no one within 10 yards. He stood still then passed back rather than engaging and at least pretending to progress the ball.

Andy

you were clearly watching a different game to the one i was

Arsenalista

Clearly

Zet

Cellabos kept the ball moving yesterday, have too give credit for that. Only hope he can do it against the better teams.

Vaibhav

Very true, I echo your feeling. The general standards have gone down so would be moving away from blogs.

It Is What It Is

No need to delay, I’d say. Won’t be getting any better as per your observation.

I just hope you were as vocal when the ‘general standards were up’. Also, let us know when you’re back, or plan to be back.

FFS it’s an award winning free daily, with reliable info. I agree and disagree with blogs in the same paragraph sometimes. Let alone, the comments section. Anyway, just wanted to say goodbye.

Gervinhothegoat

That lad has never taken anything by the scruff of the neck. Slow one paced and soft as shite. One way ticket back to Madrid

ParteyPants

You gonna ask for your money back next?

Filip

I rarely reply here but this just irked me. Ceballos will be 25 this summer. At this point, we know who he is and what he is not. On top of that, Dani Ceballos is not aware of that. If you think arseblog’s analysis of Dani Ceballos is childish, how would you rate Dani Ceballos’ analysis of himself, as it appears he rates himself extremely high, judging by his remarks and attitude…? Cannot wait to not have Dani Ceballos as on option in Arsenal’s midfield…

ASH

Good teams have a settled centre back pair. After one and half year, Arteta has no idea on who is first choice CB pair are. Great teams have a settled back four. After one and half year, Arteta has no idea on three of the 4 places. Great teams have a settled centre midfield pair. After one and half year, Arteta has no idea on who is first choice midfield pair are. Who is our first choice striker, or wingers? Why wasnt Saka moved to LB, when KT was injured? Why is Cedric always on the bench, and who signed… Read more »

El Mintero

You’re kinda all over the place with that post mate. Injuries this season have forced our hand a lot with team selections…yeah, that can’t be the main reason for some of the chopping and changing that’s gone on but still…also, bellerin is definitely not better at LB than Xhaka…I agree with you on Willock vs ceballos but also remember Willock has more or less been on the bench every game for Newcastle last 6 months…that should tell you a lot…and baggies fans don’t seem to rate AMN as highly as some on here…

Wolffman Paul.

AMN is a good midfielder, not the best but, better than average.I think his value is in his ability to make a reasonable fist in any position he is asked to play. So is a good cover player for injuries. Lets face it if he wasn’t out on loan he would have started the last few games as Left back, rather than pulling players out of a position they are more suited to.

Dave

Ceballos does have good moments but he is limited physically and has a ceiling due to this and most probably isn’t suited to the Premier League.

It Is What It Is

What? He got rid of an ageing Sokratis DC, Kola DL, AMN DLR, Salibaba DC, Luiz DC to retire. This isn’t championship manager where you make wholesale changes to a squad . He’s sifted through, and will be adding at least a DL, possibly a RB. All this hammering of our FA cup winning Sanger is a bit much considering Auba owes 10-14 goals, Willian 5-10, Dani owes whatever Willock has scored. They all contribute, as well as the dodgy selections. I’m sure Arteta, if not the whole squad, understand the gravity of their situation. I just hope they all… Read more »

The same old agendas and biases.

Tomaury Bischfeld

Breaking news: blogger has opinion

Andy

indeed. to give willian a 6 today is ridiculous. he was one of our best players even without the goal. and pepe was really good too. and elneny. and ceballos. all 8+ today. but no, it’s fun to hate on players regardless of how they perform.

vee

He gave Martinelli a 6, who did absolutely nothing. He is busy writing his live blog to be fair so maybe not all attention goes into the game the first time he watches it.

Saka challenges

I would hate to see a compilation of all the dangerous backward passes Willian makes in a game that not only detracts from attacking buildup, actually puts a lot of pressure on our defenders to clear, but if there was any, i would point you to it. Apart from 2-3 movements, he was quite poor.

Dave

Imagine a game of football where you were only allowed to pass forward.

It wouldn’t be pretty.

vee

The only reason why I mentioned it was because he gave Martinelli the same rating, who had no impact in the game, even his tireless pressing did nothing. Atleast Willian scored.

Badaab

Willian was as shit as he’s been all season- grabbing a set piece goal at the end of a meaningless game against a relegated opponent is meaningless. That arteta keeps picking him is diabolical

Awesomesauce25

That’s not true. I’m no fan of Willian, but he had some nice dribbles and passes to release Saka into dangerous areas. The fact is William has underperformed his standards and Arteta had removed him from the starting lineup in response. Recently his play has improved but still not to his previous (prior to Arsenal) standards. He arrived on an injury and clearly never recovered his old form, and may not ever again due to his advanced age. However, as unimpressed as I’ve been with him, yesterday he was good for much of the game. Credit due where credit deserved.… Read more »

Finnyp

Really not seeing an 8 for Willian. Maybe my apathy towards him following his generally dismal displays this season have clouded my judgement but… he is just generally stale. In fact I struggle to generate any adjectives to describe his game beyond ‘meh’. Tasty free kick though eh!

Postman

Apparently teachers develop a psychological bias when they mark an exam – they are influenced by the number of correct numbers previously and the results are different if they just mark each question separately as opposed to a whole paper.

Equally, it appears Blog is rating Willian on the season – fair enough – rather than the game.

Willian worked well with Saka today and scored a good free kick, so arguably deserved more if looking at the game in isolation.

Andy

agreed. the whole point of match ratings is they should be taken in isolation. it is a rating of how the player performed in this game and nothing else. so much bias and it’s the same nonsense every week.

WoolwichArse

So why read it then?

Tomaury Bischfeld

I read the same old nonsense every week, but it’s usually in this comments section. The numbers mean little. They are a very loose scale, a very imperfect measurement for assessing performance as a matter of intuitive opinion, not scientific objectivity. The site is designed so you can put in your own ratings, and even say why you disagree below. It’s a bit of fun, not a PhD. Noone is exempt from bias, however hard they try, so take the rod out of your own eye first. Of course your opinions are influenced by previous performances, it’s inescapable. Should we… Read more »

Andy

no. i’m not saying it should be scientific and of course it’s just a bit of fun. but it colours opinion and it’s frustrating to see the same players get blamed even when they have played well while others (partey, i am looking at you) get a free ride. i was very critical of willian myself earlier in the season but he has improved a huge amount recently and i really don’t know where he gets the reputation for being lazy. he is always putting a shift in.

El Mintero

I don’t disagree with you that blogs has his own favorites and others that will never be rated highly by him…but so what?! Don’t we all have the same?! We all know he hates Willian (difficult to argue against that one for 95% of the season mind…), hates Lacazette (that one I do take issue with), loves leno (very questionable), loves Odegaard (he’s gone way over the top with that one), is kinda supportive of Xhaka (sort of agree with him on that), thinks Luiz is a waste of money (I disagree), doesn’t like holding that much (I disagree), hates… Read more »

Spot on assessment of the biases.

ClockEndRider

With all the things in the world to get angry about, a blogger who provides so much content for free shouldn’t be one of them. Get a grip, you miserable feckers.

goonshow

Excellent clarity of thought mate.

Wolffman Paul.

I gave Willian a 7.5 as I thought he had a good game. Even without the goal he made a good contribution to the performance. He normally gets a 2 or 2.5 off me.

A Different George

You are absolutely right. When I graded exams, I actually graded all the answers to question 1, then shuffled the pack and graded question 2 without knowing anything about how question 1 had been answered.

Brian

What game were you watching, Andy? Willian was rubbish today, just like he has been all season. He had a 40 yard pass backwards at one stage that put us under pressure for 4 minutes. Then he had another one 5 minutes later. Big deal, he scored a fk that we didn’t need. If my grandmother took as many set pieces as him, she would have probably scored one this season. And she died 20 years ago.

Walter White

Confirmation bias? You simply only remember the bad moments that fit in your narrative and scrub aside all the good stuff Willian did today.
You, and almost all of us, know he has been a bad choice for the season, but give credit where it os due. He was pretty good today.

Wiltoooooooooord !!!

Speaking of bias. I am biased (negatively) on Willian (but I was very very excited when he came on board) .. so much biased , that I keep watching him sometimes even without ball. He looks lost would be an understatement (to compare, watch ESR without the ball). Now with ball his biggest achievements are like playing the pass he did to Saka before the latter set ESR up for the opener. Now in my opinion, for a player with Willian’s credentials, that’s bare minimum to expect. Coming to the bad . His forward play lacks optimism. Pepe, at least… Read more »

Cobwebs

If you don’t like the player ratings because they aren’t objective you can just read the statistical analysis instead. Boring as fuck and people just end up discussing validity of measures instead. I’d rather read something human, funny and sometimes provocative.

K9ine

World is still a better place when we win, despite a very shitty season. Could have been a worse start to the week.

Woolwich Shepherd

Bit harsh on Pepe. I thought what he may have lacked in possession he made up for in covering on the left. Chambers got exposed a couple of times. C’mon Blogs, how ’bout an extra 0.5 for Willian? He had a couple of nice through-balls.

Rich

I thought Willian was good tonight, was on the same wavelength with Saka, and knitted things together quite well, then hit a lovely free kick

Better late than never

cranky colin

Blogs……… do us all a favour and stop banging on about how you think Saka shudda been playing at LB since the KT injury…………I strongly suspect that Mikel’s spies read your site, ( possibly reads it himself), and you know how that goes……..the more one makes the mistake, the more one digs in🥸

Andy

did blogs actually call for this? i don’t remember much of a noise about it. general conensus was saka was doing so well on right wing so we shouldn’t move him. easy to be correct in hindsight.

funny how nobody complains about pep changing his team around every week. this is the kind of squad arteta is trying to build. this is his philosophy and it’s been clear to see from the beginning. i don’t see the point in bashing the guy for doing exactly what we should expect.

A Different George

Yes Blogs wrote this, talked about it in the podcast, indeed wouldn’t stop mentioning it. His main point was not that Xhaka was so bad on the left but that Xhaka’s absence from the midfield was (like it or not) a big loss. He argued that Saka could still provide some–less than as a forward, but some–attacking threat from fullback, and that the wealth of attacking talent we have could more easily compensate for his loss up front than from Xhaka’s loss in midfield. I think this is an accurate summary, and I think it’s plain he was correct.

goonerrah

Saka at LB was so obvious. Arteta should be fired just for that. I don’t think he is a good judge of talent and how to maximize it.

Vaibhav

You cannot sacrifice your attacking play with Saka at LB. Against the baggies there is little more room but in bigger games you need proper LBs or defensively minded players.

Gervinhothegoat

Yeah proper left back like granit xhaka.
It’s a no brainer because he was our best attacker even from left back and provided overlapping runs constantly. Plenty of forward options in the squad

goonerrah

Saka is a better defender than Bellerin, and a better attacker than Xhaka. Of all the games Saka played at LB, I’ve only seen him make 1 or 2 big mistakes.

Bergkamp2Wright

Glaringly obvious.

cranky colin

Well, I suppose 6 of you got the joke!

Cobwebs

Blogs was right!

A Different George

Watching Saka, I thought of Blogs’ absurd idea that he should play at left back (and let Xhaka, our second-best midfielder play where he belonged). Yeah, I know he did it early on in the season, but we saw tonight that it really could never work. Poor Saka was out of his element, never got into the game, posed no threat on attack.

I would add that, seriously, I thought Pepe was much better than a 6.

Canmore Gunner

Wrighty nailed the negative play of Arsenal in the post game comments, referencing the backwards passing, overall passivity and limited positive play outside of the young guns. It has been there all year of course, and is now a hallmark of Arsenal. This has lots to do with the Manager, who seems to lack the commitment towards ambitious play. After watching Leeds play yesterday (all season really), one notes the positive aspect an ambitious manager can have on a team. And I think we have far more talent in our side than Leeds. I’m pretty sick of all the sideways… Read more »

Twatsloch

Glad I gave the second half a miss and watched this French series about YPG killing IS cunts instead then.

Philip Visser

Totally agree. Once we scored 2 goals the ambition to score more disappeared. Even after they scored it seems we merely trying to see the game out instead of killing it off. Painful

Andy

did you watch the game? we created lots of chances. should have had 4 or 5 goals before they scored.

Tribe

Actually, we always do that. Score then pull the handbrake. The problem within the team is – if you have energy to fight and win, do it for 90 minutes. We did pulled the handbrake at 2-0 and even Arteta himself said that in the post match interview.

Andy

sure. but we still created a number of chances even with the handbrake on and in “domination mode”. martinelli and lacazette missed sitters.

Tribe

The Leeds paralel – spot on. Not much to add. Many teams of their caliber can only dream salaries like at Arsenal, structures like Arsenal, but they dont have them, Instead, Leeds (I stick to your paralel) have spirit and desire. And obviously a very good coach in Bielsa.

Robh

I dont know what you or our fans expected. Before deadline day, our midfield options were Xhaka, Willock, Ceballos and Elneny. Then we added Partey, who hasn’t quite played to his ability. Those MF options are worse than every top half team. Why did everyone think we would be competing for CL spots when our midfielders are worse than Villa or Leeds?

Dr. kNOw

This! This is the objective cornerstone of this season’s performance. Unfortunately, the next big one is Arteta’s mismanagement via baffling man management and squad selections, and ponderous play. This made a difficult season with that awful midfield the shitshow we see today.

The man needs some serious introspection. Hopefully he learns, or it’s going to be a short season for him, and a long one for gooners, Edu, Vinai, and the Kroenkes.

Gervinhothegoat

Also options were guendouzi torreria ozil.

ClockEndRider

2 of whom didn’t want to be here. And the other one did as long as he didn’t have to add anything on match days.

pedro

Just because he mishandled players froze them out or didnt use them doesnt mean they werent options.
The same with Saliba
The same with Nelson and Martenelli hardly used at all
The same with willock and Niles.

btw

Bring in Bielsa! Probably the best manager we could recruit at our current level.

Twatsloch

Good to win but I’m unable to feel any excitement for what’s left of this dismal season now. Big Sam being sent down is small consolation but better than nothing I guess.

Till next season!

Gervinho is Driving

Good to see Willian in the shop window.

Twatsloch

I can’t even bring myself to be wound up by him anymore. It’s like being in a haze. “Elneny passes backwards – alright. ESR scores – good. Willian – loses the ball/drags his feet/plays well/scores/gets sent off/limps off/limps on – whatever…”. Flashing before me in slow motion like I’m on some potent downers or something.

Meh!

Andy

you just don’t like willian. you are not watching the games.

Twatsloch

Who likes Willian? Name just one. His family and Arteta don’t count.

goonshow

Elneny made arguably the fewest back passes of our mids/defs this game? Ran his bollocks off and drove us forward a number of times.

Fred Garvin

I’d seriously be into loaning Willian out next year. He’s clearly not going to be sold before his contract is up.

goonshow

Yep – but we won’t shift his entire salary off the books with the way he’s been playing.
And interesting side-bar moment: the way the entire team ran up to him and congratulated him when he scored that belter. Makes one wonder if (a) they read the weekly social media crucifixions of him and (b) what he brings to the team behind the scenes as he is clearly very well-liked and respected?

vee

Double standards. At least Laca won free kicks and held the ball at times as supposed to Martinelli who held the ball up 0 times had a few nothing shots and hit a few nothing balls. Agenda on Lacazette is unreal.

vee

Good he got hauled off, people are mad thinking that he could replace Laca’s output next season

Gervinhothegoat

What was the point of taking him off. He needs a run of games, and the manager to show some confidence in him. Can’t really be judged on one game.

vee

It’s not just been one game. He has had a mixed bag this season if we are being honest. Well if things are not working out you take action, something I credit Arteta who did it for once. He is playing more now anyway

Gervinhothegoat

The point is if he was actually given a run of games and a chance to get up to speed and settle into the side we could see what he can really do.
I don’t think he has been a mixed bag at all I think he has been excellent the very few chances this manager has given him.

vee

He wasn’t excellent yesterday, wasn’t excellent against Fulham against Brighton, didn’t do anything of note in a few appearances he was subbed on, including the Europa league. Excellent is too strong a word to be describing his performances

Andy

he’s a kid. and he’s got elite potential. laca is a busted flush and was never that good in first place. a downgrade on giroud. his time is up so we have to start playing the guys that are going to be here in 5 years time.

vee

Context is everything here, your opinions have are baseless. Giroud was spoonfed chance after chance in a Wenger attacking system with Prime Ozil, Cazorla and Sanchez. Laca has had Iwobi, Auba who can’t create, a washed up Mkhitaryan.

vee

No his time is not up, there is no striker who we can get realistically who can replace what Lacazette gives to this team. Besides we have more important positions to improve.

Andy

giroud could. and we could have him back on a lot less money than laca will want. balogun and martinelli need to be given game time. laca is worth money in the market now and will want big wages for his next contract. let someone else give him that and we can bring in someone with more upside. time to be “ruthless”.

vee

You are replacing our striker with a player with less ability, with all due respect that is anything but ruthless. We want our team to get better, not worse. If Lacazette goes we need a player that is good enough to be relied upon if Aubameyang is having an off day.

Andy

i’m talking about building a team for 3-5 years, not next season. we have already invested in short term solutions for multiple years now and it hasn’t worked out. while that has been happening we have let a huge amount of young valuable players leave for next to nothing because they couldn’t get any game time.

you seem to be under the impression we have the same financial capability to run up enormous debt that chelski/city/united/psg/real/barca have. we don’t and we need to use the transfer market to balance the books.

vee

Are you going to have Giroud in that team that you are building? That doesn’t make any sense. Our young forwards are not good enough at the moment, and you’ve seen what has happened when we have overplayed even our best young players, if you’re telling me it’s going to take 3-5 years to get us to top 4 that is just not good enough. There is a balance, we cannot put them all in, that will just not work. Lacazette is a quality footballer and not only that he makes those around him better, they look up to him,… Read more »

Andy

sure i agree we cannot just play kids. it has to be a mixture. i like laca. he is a solid player without ever being spectacular – much like giroud. i would be happy to keep him based on his abilities but my argument is that, given his age, the wages he would expect and the fact that we could probably get 20-30m for him, now seems like the time to sell rather than give another 30 year old a nice cushy contract while he has no resale value. i just don’t see how we can afford to make those… Read more »

vee

Laca was very very good in Emery’s 1st season, 32 goal contributions with Auba’s 39. I mean very few players are spectacular but he was certainly very good. What he and Auba did should have got us top 4 but we had such dross who cost us games and strange decisions such as putting Jenkinson at right back against Palace which cost us, we were 2 points of 3rd that season, very slim margins. What would be ideal for all of us is to hope and pray that the board have mercy on us and just go. Our club is… Read more »

vee

I think Lacazette is good enough to get us in the top 4 because he has had a better season than Jesus, than Vardy, than Martial/Rashford, than Werner/Havertz/Abraham/Giroud and these are all players that have played up front in the top 4 teams

Gervinhothegoat

Lacazette has been here 4 seasons and never managed even 15 premier League goals in s season.
And we have never made the top 4.

vee

We have been terrible for a few years now, We haven’t got top 4 with Auba or Tierney neither. are you telling me they’re bad players? Firmino has never reached that mark and Liverpool have been in the top 4 the last few years. Lacazette and Auba helped us a point of 4th and 2 points of 3rd. They did their job during Emery’s 1st season with 23 and 27 goal contributions respectively in a not so good team. It is very easy to say that usual crap of never managed 15 goals a premier league season, without really thinking,… Read more »

pedro

2017/18 firmino 15 premier league goals.

vee

Oh so damn sorry he scored 15 goals on the dot, when Laca got 14

pedro

Its all about the details sunshine
Oh and wind your neck in telling people they arent thinking or dont know what their talking about. The point of this is that people give their opinion not everyone has to agree.
And in my opinion Lacazette is a good not great striker who at 29 already looks past his best.
Someone we would do well to cash in on now while he still has some value because in 2 years he will be worth nothing.

vee

Yeah so it is my opinion that some opinions, including yours I might add have no real basis

goonshow

Giroud was/is hugely under-rated: point is fair about Wenger’s playmakers supplying but he has consistently scored ‘big’ goals on bigger occasions everywhere he’s played, including at the highest level for France.
I would bet money he’d have got at least one at home against VR the other night!

vee

The number of people saying that reverses it and now he has gone overrated, classic revisionism at its finest. Lacazette has single handedly won/drawn us big games, there’s a difference. There are levels. How can you say that about a man who had a period of not scoring for 5 months when he was supposed to be at his peak? Mesut Ozil had 18 assists in mid December that season and he couldn’t even break to 20, Giroud being one of the major reasons because of it. No he would not have done anything as history suggests.

vee

Context is everything here, your opinions have are baseless. Giroud was spoonfed chance after chance in a Wenger attacking system with Prime Ozil, Cazorla and Sanchez. Laca has had Iwobi, Auba who can’t create, a washed up Mkhitaryan.

El Mintero

Dude that is some crazy bs right there…Laca was our player of the season only 2 years ago…he was fkd with the ankle injury last year and this year has been our top scorer and again gives 100% every game and yet he “was never that good in the first place”?!! A downgrade on Giroud?! You just lost all credibility.

Riku

Few teams sell the seasons top scorer and improve position in the league table the next .. can anyone name one…?
Even when it’s got rid of cole for Van niestroy. We beat them to title that year

Dave

Laca is a good player but Giroud would bring a lot more to our system.

Matt P

Sorry, but who gives a fuck. We put away a shit team

Vaibhav Pandey

No one gives a fuck to your opinion 😉

Jason

Rating for pepe is hilarious..
7.5 at least

R-Ldn

Apart from the goal, which is is standard against rubbish opposition; West Brom, Molde, Dundalk, Brighton etc. He was just awful.

Can go on about defensive work rate, but any teenager with instruction can do that. Man is a waste of money, time and space in our squad. I’d happily flog him, but I don’t think we’d even get half…

Zet

Someone need to tell PEPE he is not PELE.
He don’t need to dribble pass 2-3 players everytime he gets the ball. He should keep in simple passing and dribble only when really need to. A good example is Mahrez from MC.
Have to give credit to that brilliant goal scored though.

Badaab

Cellos runs so slowly it’s like he’s under water. Willian injured himself on his first sprint of the season… in may.

Badaab

This mf said ‘cellos’

Phil

I really feel for Chambers. I’d say he’s one of our most technically assured and composed defenders, but it just hasn’t happened for him with injuries etc.
When he has had a run at CB, I’ve much preferred him to current options. It would be a real shame for me if we sold him, but he deserves a shot at it somewhere else.

Bergkamp2Wright

He should be given a chance ahead of Holding IMO, holding has proven he is a back up at best. Like you say Chambers technical ability is pretty high, and I think he’d compliment Gabriel pretty well.

pedro

Holding is very good in the air the amount of headed clearences he makes is quite impressive.
He has easily been our best and most consistant centre back this season

goonshow

Except when he isn’t – at least 4 key goals this season where he’s either been outjumped or out-positioned in the box… worst being Sterling’s gazelle leap above him!

pedro

Thats the way goals work the attacker evades the defenders and finds the space. or the defenders are caught out by a good pass/ cross.
Youd be hard pressed to find any defender in the league who hasnt been at fault for a few goals through out the season.

Rday

I’d like to chambers as the deeper dm, he was Fulham’s Player of the season their and put away 5 goals ( I think).

Good passer, coposed, defensive aware, and not affraid to hit a shot with power. I think thats an easy win personally.

goonshow

Absolutely agree – Holding is way too inconsistent and slow-footed. He really does dither on the ball and is arguably our biggest back-pass culprit.

goonshow

Poor Mo’Nenny – Blogs rates him the same as the hapless Ceballos?? What on earth does the fella have to do Blogs?!
He ran his bollocks off… drove forward more than most, with very few backward or square passes and always tried to find the attacking ball.
And Pepe with 6.5?? C’mon!!!

Exit the Lemming

Mangan’s arithmetic gets uncharacteristically ‘personal’ for some players.

Baruch Velleman

I’m a great fan, Andrew, but when you get a bee in your bonnet……Willian had a pretty good game. He worked hard, made some good passes, gave us an outlet, combined well with Saka and was involved in two of the goals. I agree that we need to raise the level of the squad but last night, despite his lack of pace, Ceballos did likewise

The optimist with little hope

Has the Wenger in/out debate turned shifted to Ceballos? The poor git haha

goonshow

A word on the Arsenal going backwards… Whilst Arteta has done little to cure this malaise, it definitely began with Emery – I can clearly remember when he first got us to start playing short passes out from the keeper. Sok, Mustuffup and co were woefully under-skilled for this and the result was that we’d get somewhere near the halfway line, under huge pressure from clumsy footwork and be forced to hoof it back. This was exacerbated by the rest of the squad being utterly confused as to Unai’s ‘tactics’, resulting in little movement to create openings for the attacking… Read more »

pedro

Its not a malaise or a mindset its part of the game plan.
The players are told to do it by Arteta.

Exit the Lemming

Kudos to Willian for his goal and a decent performance overall. That said, he needs to be offloaded in the summer along with Chambers, Bellerin, Holding, Mari, Ceballos, Elneny, Nketiah, Lacazette, Xhaka, Runarsson, Luiz, Nelson and Cedric. Yes I know, that leaves us with a 5 a side team but talk is cheap otherwise if Arteta wants to be ‘ruthless’

ChickPEA

I would keep Chambers, Xhaka and Mari in this list. Elneny and Cedric can also provide the numbers.

The rest can go for sure.
