Joe Montemurro not drawn on Roord and Gut futures: ‘Those things will be sorted out in due course’

Earlier this week, reports circulated in Switzerland that Arsenal midfielder Malin Gut might return to Grasshopper Zurich this summer citing homesickness. Likewise, Jasmina Schweimler at Sportbuzzer reports that Wolfsburg are close to signing Gunners midfielder Jill Roord this summer. (Full story from earlier this week here).

When asked to comment by Arseblog News on Friday Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro was keeping his cards close to his chest.

“I can’t comment on their futures at the moment, no,” Montemurro said. “They are still Arsenal players for the next few games and until the end of the month and then I suppose those things will be sorted out in due course.”

My understanding is that both reports are solid and while Joe understandably wouldn’t be drawn, he didn’t deny the stories either.

I guess, Tim, you would have been amazed if Joe had given a different response to your questions.
We had the good news that Katie McCabe had re-signed but with all the uncertainty surrounding “the Arsenal” I fear that our women will slip way down the list of priorities.

Indeed he couldn’t say much else (and I already know those reports are well placed). Much depends on the appointment of the new manager, that’s what the real key to the summer is. Am told there will be four leaving this summer (Jill, Malin, Leonie and one I can’t confirm yet). Am expecting Viv to stay but think she’ll not commit to a new deal just yet, Leah should be fine to stay. None of the players leaving are totally irreplaceable but all depends on how good a recruitment job we do and then it’s down to the new coach.… Read more »

Which makes this season even more of a missed opportunity. Sorry to bitch, but if we’d won a trophy, and put up more of a fight for the league title, we’d be in a stronger position to request increased investment, especially since the sums involved are comparatively tiny in the women’s game.

I think maybe some overestimate the strength of this team. Chelsea and ManCity were/are extremely strong AND didn’t have the (constant) injury woes that Arsenal had. How many matches did Little miss, for example, to name but one? Lots, as I recall–including the big ones. As a famous American NFL coach once said, “you are what your record says you are.”

I don’t think I overestimate the strength of the squad – it is equal to Man City, IMO. I have previously bemoaned the *size* of it. Also I referred to fighting for title, not necessarily winning it. I think we can all agree Chelsea were favourites from the start. But we really should have run them much closer. When Joe and the girls won the league, we had a series of bad injuries to key players but the girls just stepped up and kept going.

What about Mary Philip as an outside bet? Ex-Gunner, men’s league management experience. Might be difficult to grab her though as she is probably happy where she is in Del-Boy land!

Great idea. She has the toughness of the pioneers of women’s football, which is a huge plus. I really couldn’t judge how good she is, and whether it’s enough for an elite club, though.

An optimistic thought. If Silent Stan stays maybe he can be persuaded that he will get a far better return on, say, £10 million invested in AWFC than in Willian’s payroll.
Flippin’ Ek! That’s a goodun’🤣

Did Monte say what he wants to do next? I read a comment from him recently in which he said that if he takes another job, it would probably be in Europe as there are no opportunities (or good ones) in Australia. As for Miedema, I have to think she’ll get other offers and with uncertainty as to the coach, she might be somewhat uncertain. I could name a club or three that would be keen….

Leonel should go. She is so bad on the pitch.

Was Jayne Ludlow in the running for the Manager’s role?

Peter Story Teller

She has just taken a job at the Man City Academy so we can forget Jayne.

Suz

I was curious if she took the City role because she’d already been ruled out by Arsenal?

Let get back Heavey or Casey Stoney
