Arsenal have confirmed that Zech Medley has joined Belgian side KV Oostende in a permanent deal.
The 20-year-old defender made three substitute appearances for the Arsenal senior team in the 2018/19 season under Unai Emery but was always going to find it hard getting regular game time with so many centre-backs on the books at the Emirates.
He spent the first half of last season at Gillingham before moving north of the border for a short spell with Kilmarnock.
Zech is the second Academy graduate to depart this morning. The Gunners also confirmed that striker Trae Coyle, who also spent time at Gillingham, has moved to Swiss side FC Lausanne.
Best of luck to Zech in his new surroundings.
Did we get a fee, or is this an expiring contract?
I hope whatever we get can atleast offset a week’s salary of El Capitan 🙂 I am sure we would have inserted something like “Sell on” Clause in the deal if he makes it big in later career.
High chances he leaves his new club without performing great, we get peabuts as sell-on share and then he becomes a monster defender in his third club..oh then Oostende gets a few good millions as sell on too!
Or this clause stays in the contract till later. Which is still possible. Or he just becomes a decent player. It is too much guessing to worry about.
How many times has that happened? Gnabry was the exception and Wenger really wanted to keep him.
We all think that every youngster could very likely become a worldbeater. But if you look at how many there are out there, and how few become world class, him becoming the english Van Dijk is the least of my worries.
Name an academy kid who came through to play CB for a premier league club.
I get it.
Best of luck sir. Have a good one.
Yeah, I mean even the guys at Chelsea like Christensen and Zouma had so many Loans and ups and downs. And they were huge talents coming in. And we see now on what level a 20 year old can operate.
Tuanzebe – not a first team regular but has already started a handful of games for united.
Yeah and he is around the block for ages.I don’t know if that was the best choice for his career and his development. I doubt it.
Good luck fella
Nicer place to live than England, so best of luck to him.
Congrats, son. Wishing you all the best in life.
