Report: Chambers linked with AS Roma

Given Mikel Arteta will lose four players to the African Cup of Nations in January, we’re not expecting too many Arsenal outgoings when the transfer window opens in the new year.

It’s highly likely that Folarin Balogun will be sent out on loan but the only other standout candidates are Sead Kolasinac and Calum Chambers, both of whom will be out of contract in the summer.

We like Calum, he seems like a lovely lad, but he’s not getting much football right now and we suspect he’s keen to show potential suitors what he’s made of before he becomes a free agent.

Interestingly, Italian publication Il Corriere dello Sport claims intermediaries have already offered the defender to AS Roma.

We’ve no idea if there’s any truth in the story, which seems to be powered by the Giallorossi’s need to find reinforcements at right-back, but it’s not that far-fetched.

Roma have made a habit of snapping up experienced Premier League stars in recent years with Ashley Cole, Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham making up a select English contingent. They also took Henrikh Mkhitaryan off our hands.

The only downside about a move to the Stadio Olimpico is having to work with that sociopathic little runt Mourinho as he presses the squad-destruct button in advance of his inevitable move to Newcastle.

Pizza and pasta is good. But does it outweigh Portuguese prattishness? Something for Calum to mull over.

I quite like Arteta’s brutality but it does leave some players right out in the cold. When Martinelli had a bad half against United, we didn’t see him again for months. And the same with Chambers. And arguably Balogun and Leno too. It means that a player absolutely has to take their chance and there is no room for poor performance. And there has been too much complacency and not enough competition for places in the past. I think Calum would be a massive asset to anyone outside the top 8. He’s versatile and has had some incredible performances for… Read more »

Matt

Weird to think that in his best season for us we still had Rosicky, Podolski and Debuchy. Time to move on, for his sake.

Grymelock

It’s not the best description of that twat from Chelsea I’ve ever read, but it’s still good.

I still find it odd that AMN has become the staple at midfield and Chambers RB, really felt it should have been the other way around.

Jules

I just really rate AMN at CM. He’s been decent to good every time he’s been there and I really feel with a solid run of games he could be really really good.

Bishop

I will caviar my statement with saying: If this is true, I hope it is just a loan because Roma will never pay us his worth, but a half season on loan in Italy will be great for his development.

I am surprised more premier league clubs aren’t trying to sign him. He will be immense for a club in the bottom half of the table

Something a bit fishy about that first sentence…

It’s a tough roe to hoe.

What a load of carp.

I sea what you’ve all done there.

We need to shoal him the door

Once, twice, three times el neny

For the love of cod bishop…..

I quite like Calum. Hope he stays and provide backup to tomiyasu and maybe even CB or DM position.

T.A.

Has Chambers ever featured as a DM for us? I know he played in that role with much success at Fulham, but I can’t remember us ever deploying him there.

A Different George

We all heard he was Fulham’s best player that season. The fact that they were probably relegated by December makes this a difficult fact to assess.

Not sure you could get a more like for like replacement for Tomi at RB than Chambers. For what it’s worth we should keep him unuil the summer otherwise it’s Cedric again.

Thanks for sharing that!

Hope he signs a new contract. He’s versatile and provides squad depth which we’ll need next season when we’re back in Europe. I prefer him over Cedric as 2nd choice RB. Seems like a lovely chap too.

UzesGooner

He’s definitely useful, although I think we need a young, Tavares type cover RB. If Tomi gets a long term injury we’d soon get very bored of Chambers playing there……he’s alright for the odd game or 20 minutes, but that’s it.

But yes, Cedric needs a retirement home elsewhere

TexasGooner6

Don’t we have an option on Chambers? If so sell him rather than let him leave for free. He is good just not great.

MojoWillneny

I would rather keep Chambers and sell Holding. Holding would probably sell for slightly higher price, Saliba is coming in next summer and would push Holding further down the pecking order, and Chambers is more useful because he can play two positions.

Verdant

With the recent tendency of Roma offering us below what we think our players are worth, is there a chance of slipping in Cedric instead of Calum?

We could polish Cedric to make look all shiny and new. I doubt they can tell the difference.
