Well done
When there is no Kim Little, penalties should be taken by either Nobbs, Catley, Foord or Maanum
Parris and Miedema are worst in taking penalties.
Tim, any insight into a deputy penalty taker? It seemed no one wanted to step forward last night and Keets was pushed into the box because she won the penalty. I would have thought Jordan would have been next in line, and she was Captain at the time too, so I’m not sure why she didn’t pick up the ball. Keets’ penalty was not badly taken but it wasn’t unstoppable either but their goalie had a superb game last night and single-handed kept the score down to 5. I was very surprised with the Koge tactics given all the hype… Read more »
Respect to Keets for stepping up. It did surprise me as I remembered her missing two at the last World Cup. We’re in four cup competitions and it’s more than likely that at least one tie will go to a shoot-out. That does make me a bit nervous. Nevertheless I trust Jonas to have thought it through!
Should’ve let Wally take it…
I didnt look too much at whether the other players wanted it, but actually thought it made perfect sense for Parris to take it since she needed the goals and confidence. Of course i remember her world cup penalty misses.
Loved the Wälti/Nobbs central midfield and the way Arsenal played this game!!
Besides the long balls and the wide attacks that Arsenal’ are so good at, everyone seemed to be releasing the ball quicker in mostly one or two touches, and seemed less hesitant to pass to outlets in the pocket between opponents, both in attacking and evading the press. Right at the second minute Wälti facing her body wide as a disguise to pass down the middle seemed like an indication of that. Oh and an iIncredible free kick by Catley!
I have this feeling that if Arsenal blaze out fully against Barca and ensure we are tidy at the back, we can actually get a result against them
If we want to harbor genuine hopes of winning the UCL, we have to do everything we can to beat them at the Emirates.
It will be a real statement of intent
Leah was my Player of the Match – she was everywhere and has become a top class defender, the best in the WSL at this stage.
Caitlyn also had a great game & linked well with Viv, proving it’s OK to play both at the same time.
Jordan sparkled and should now be a first choice starter. She probably should have taken the penalty though.
As Peter said it may have been double figures but for the Danish keeper.
