Tim Stillman reflects on what was a disappointing day for Arsenal at Wembley Stadium, losing to Chelsea 0-3 in the 2021 Women’s FA Cup Final.
We hear Head Coach Jonas Eidevall’s thoughts on Chelsea’s approach to the match and why Jordan Nobbs did not take to the field.
I can’t fully express how painful this result is. This the worst game we’ve played so far this season (even worse than the Barca first leg). I think Jonas was probably more focused on the Barca return leg.
Big disappointment but we can only move on from this.
I went today & I’m going Thursday…..Tim can you give me a reason to be optimistic?
Terrible doesn’t begin to describe how dire Arsenal were today. The centerbacks were comically bad–to say that slow J. Beattie is an awful matchup with Chelsea would be a vast understatement. Walthi and Maanum were bad. I’ll have to go back and review the game in which we beat Chelsea earlier this season–but generally their counter-attacking style of play is FAR more effective than Arsenal’s possession style. They are very good at defending and can keep numbers back given how quick they are up front. It’s funny that Kerr scored on two relatively tough chances after botching at least 3… Read more »
How can someone down vote this comment it is absolutely true whether you like it or not. The “Arsenal way” of playing was completely nullified by a team at the top of their game in defence so that we could not muster a single goal scoring opportunity in the entire match and our defensive selection and modus operandi was naiive against a superb counter attack.
Hayes is the master of revenge. After the opening day loss at the Emirates there was little chance that she would let this opportunity pass. Okay the loss of Leah was key to our vulnerable CB pairing and Kerr and Kirbey went straight for Jen and Lotte. Game over in 2 minutes. Perhaps dropping Lia in alongside Lotte or Jen may have worked better but sorry Jonas the real big miss from the starting 11 had to be Jordan. If she is fit Jordan just has to start a cup final particularly against Chelski.
