Mikel Arteta has paid tribute to Arsenal fans, as well as Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka, as the Emirates rocked to the sound of the Status Quo song Gooners have modified for the two goalscorers in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Brentford.
It was Smith Rowe’s 10th of the season, and Saka’s 8th, and the Hale End graduates are playing a major part in our push for a top four place.
Asked about it afterwards, the Arsenal boss said, “Thank you to the supporters again for the atmosphere they created.
“I understand they love that song and everybody loves that song because they are players that have been raised in our system and I’m really happy that we have players that come and take the responsibility and they manage to win games for us, which is really impressive at that age.”
Arteta also admitted he’d used the pain of the opening day defeat to Brentford to provide extra motivation for his side in the build-up to yesterday’s win.
“That hurts and that scar was there,” he said, “and I certainly felt it and tried to transmit it to the players that we should not forget how we felt after the game and we understood what happened and the results after that.
“We analysed it with the context that we were in and it was really difficult to prepare for that game.
“The players that we had on that pitch were not the players we had today but we learned a lot as a team.”
For his part, Smith Rowe’s 10th of the season made him the first player to come from our Academy and get into double figures since a certain Cesc Fabregas.
He told the official site, “Wow! That’s really special to hear that. Yeah, that means a lot, you know? It’s always been a dream to play for Arsenal so to hear that, it means a lot.
“I’m buzzing. The goals are really starting to come now but the most important thing was the three points today.
“It’s a bit surreal to be honest. Me and Bukayo have both come from the academy, Eddie as well. To hear the fans screaming our names and scoring that today together, it’s just been great.”
I was at the match with a Brentford fan, he is sure they will go down (injuries and poor form) so I don’t want to get too excited by this one match.
However, Saka and ESR are fantastic (Brentford had 3 players looking out for Saka at one point, and ESR went round three for his goal) and will get even better.
Would love them to both be with us for their whole careers.
If they both stay their whole careers we are looking at a golden age. I think it can happen
Brentford isn’t a bad team, I don’t think they’re going down, they are aggressive and they seem very organized. ESR is just magical, I thought he wasn’t so active in the First Half, but the second half we just saw an incisive player with hunger of goal. I think we’re better with him that with Martinelli on the left
Tough, they are both great!
These kids do not get enough credit they deserve. Neither is their manager who has elavated their levels to now being full time international stars. Yesterday Tottenham win might have overshadowed ours, though I’m happy with the little attention our boys have from the media and their expectations on them getting top 4. As this creates less pressure for top 4, instead focusing on winning games ahead of us.
Status Quo to do the song live on the pitch for the last game.
Now that would be fun!
Rick Parfit passed away a while ago so it would not possible to have the proper SQ
He’d retired from playing long before that though.
You know you’re not the most technically exciting band when your guitarist has to quit due to RSI…
RIP Rick… yeah wouldn’t be the same without him
I don’t wish to be pedantic, but …. OK, I DO wish to be pedantic.
Saka and Emile Smith Rowe is set to a song by John Fogerty (ex Creedence Clearwater Revival). Status Quo’s version is a cover.

My favourite song of theres is Lodi.
Big Fogerty fan here so thanks for the pedantry. I’m hoping in 5 years this will simply be an ARSENAL song as these lads dominate the league. Does anyone really care that One Nil to The Arsenal is based on Go West by the Village People?
On the pedant theme; 1-0 to the Arsenal first occurred in Paris with Arsenal 1-0 up at half time vs PSG while listening to the Pet Shop Boys version of Go West. As a consequence – should a pedant say 1-0 to the Arsenal is based on Go West by The Village People or by the Pet Shop Boys?
Touché Blobby! (Not a sentence I ever thought I would write.)
I did not know this!

That is a much better version too, so thanks for sharing
Oh my bad, the Status Quo version has been relctantly embedded in my brain from childhood, bloody well hate that song, doubt the “original” will even sway me…
One of the greatest songwriters in American rock history – and one of it’s most distinctve voices. An under-rated genius in many respects – Google the number of classic songs he’s written (and not just for CCR)… it’s astounding.
I have always disliked that original song… I think we could do alot better than that trash pop rock annoying jingle shit
Our wide areas have good talent with ESR and Saka. Martinelli will also hopefully come back in strong, thought Pepe was quite fleet of foot and unlucky to tap in. Switch of play from flanks also key to upsetting opponents sitting tight. Odegaard played well with a view to cut a vertical pass in when necessary. As did Laca who has been examplar with playing others into the danger areas. Whilst he is lacking sharpness in front of goal at the moment, I always said I preferred him to Auba up top chiefly bc of the attribute he brings controlling… Read more »
