Women’s NLD rearranged date confirmed

Arsenal Women’s North London derby at home to Tottenham Hotspur has been confirmed for Wednesday, 4th May at 7.15pm at Emirates Stadium, as reported by Arseblog News last week.

The game was due to take place on Saturday, 26th March but was postponed due to covid cases in the Spurs squad. The match will be Arsenal’s third to last game of the season, they currently trail Chelsea by a point at the top of the WSL.

Spurs also travel to Chelsea before the end of the season so our North London neighbours could potentially have a big say in the title race. The match at the Emirates will be shown live on BBC Two in the UK. More information on ticket sales is available here.

In the meantime, Lotte Wubben-Moy has withdrawn from the England squad for Friday evening’s World Cup qualifier away at Macedonia to manage a thigh injury she has been carrying for the last few weeks.

It is understood not to be a serious issue but with England playing part-time opposition and Arsenal defender Rafaelle also out with a thigh injury, the decision has been taken for Lotte to return to Arsenal for continued rehabilitation.

Leah Williamson, who was yesterday confirmed as England captain for this summers Euros, will miss the game in Macedonia under concussion protocols after taking a ball in the face in Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Leicester on Sunday. She is understood to be totally fine and just following protocol and she ought to return for Tuesday’s qualifier against Northern Ireland.

Yeah the ball. To the face that knocked her down. Totally fine. Says the Arsenal medics.

Health and wellbeing of our players needs serious improvement Arsenal. I thought the medical staff were supposed to be better this season? Not good enough

Leah should have been substituted straight away. I have zero medical expertise and even I could tell it was a potential concussion injury, so there’s really no excuse for keeping her on the pitch. She could have been seriously injured (I had the odd experience of watching her go up for a corner and hoping she didn’t get her head on the ball!). Frankly I was surprised Jonas wasn’t asked about it after the game. I have no doubt the medical staff do a great job, but we’ve got to make sure things like this don’t happen, the risk to… Read more »

I see the head injury specialists are out in force. She was assessed on the pitch. Potential concussion isn’t an easy call, but she was assessed by experts. (Also worth acknowledging the Leicester player who followed her after the ball hit her to check she was ok). The word from the England camp is that she’s fine (slight headache on Sunday evening). If she’s going to be back for the NI game, that implies they’re following the Enhanced Care path, which means all tests performed and no symptoms/problems found. Would be able to play again from Sunday. Personally, I’m more… Read more »

Lotte’s and Rafaelle’s injuries are concerning. Fingers crossed.

I imagine Gabby George was called in to replace Lotte/Leah? Can’t be unhappy about that, I’ve always rated her and it means rest for our players, so win-win.

I suspect she’s cover, with Alex Greenwood and Niamh Charles also out. I presume Leah will be back in midfield on Tuesday. Can’t think too may defenders will be needed on Friday, but means less likelihood of key players having to play the full 90 in both games. Agree – good to see her getting another chance, especially after the ACL etc.
