Aside from long-term absentees Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey, Arsenal should have a full squad to call upon for Sunday’s game with Leeds United.
After missing last weekend’s win over West Ham with a hamstring issue, the Gunners will be boosted by the news that Ben White is on the verge of a quick comeback.
Speaking on Friday, Mikel Arteta said: “Ben White is still in contention, he needs to train tomorrow to make sure he’s available to play. For the rest, no news. Everybody should be okay and ready to play.”
Sunday’s showdown at Emirates Stadium promises to be a tense affair. While Arsenal chase down a place in Champions League, the visitors, now coached by American Jessie Marsch, have been dragged into a relegation battle.
“There’s a lot to play for,” said Arteta. “Obviously, the situation they are in, they are going to show how much they want to get out of that zone as quick as possible. For us, it’s the defining moment of the season, after everything we’ve done, we want to capitalise on what we’ve done in the last nine or 10 months.”
Having labelled last Sunday’s win at the London Stadium as ‘ugly’, Arteta says he’s hoping his players produce a more rounded performance this time out.
“Hopefully, we can play better than what we did. It’s true as well that we did a lot of good things in that game to earn the right to win it. The way we competed, the way we managed the strengths of West Ham. Every game has different demands and against Leeds, it will be a completely different game with the way they play but we’re competitive as well.”
