Mohamed Elneny’s form for club and country in 2022 has earned him a place on the 30-man shortlist for the CAF Player of the Year award.
The midfielder was central to Egypt’s run to the final of the African Cup of Nations in January – they ultimately lost to Senegal on penalties – and proved his worth for Arsenal, providing backup to Thomas Partey, who isn’t nominated, in the closing months of last season’s Premier League.
Elneny has since been awarded a new contract at the Emirates having previously looked a nailed on candidate to leave.
While it’s fair to say the 29-year-old is a long shot for a place on the CAF POTY podium, he can take pride at being nominated alongside some stellar names.
Nice one, Mo.

Well done Mo!
He deserves everything he’s getting recently. I love his commitment and professionalism, other ‘pros’ should take note
A truly wonderful squad player. I still think Arteta made a rookie mistake in choosing not to play him once Partey got injured. It should have been a straight swap instead he went for Lukonga who wasn’t ready
Arteta`s mistake was trying to fit a squar peg into a round hold. Lokonga is more of a Xhaka type player. He is never a Partey replacement. Elneny is closer to Partey hence his better performance in that role. For Now, we do not have a like for like replacement for Partey.
I think it’s too early to say what Lokonga isn’t.. kid has got huge potential and will adapt and become a huge player for us
Great comment. Sambi has no ceiling. At least not one that any of us can see yet!
Disagree completely. I think that positionally they’re both ideal Partey replacements.
We have mohamed, We have Jesus, please Stan get us Moses.
Buddha?
He won’t pass the medical😁
I’d prefer a Cthulhu in the middle of the park
I would like Tammy…
We’ve already had God too, don’t forget.
Elneny in Arteta’s ear – “I mean, sure, you could start Partey against Palace, but… I dunno, maybe I missed his name. But I didn’t see him on the CAF Player of the Year list. Hey Tom! Tom! Were you on the CAF Player of the Year list? No? No, didn’t think I saw him. That is a shame. Because he’s… he’s a good player. A real shame he didn’t make it. I mean, obviously somebody looked at him and then looked at me and… I mean, it’s all completely arbitrary, these lists. But if I were manager, and of… Read more »
This reminds me of when mo trolled ozil? About not going to the world cup but he was 😂
he trolled alexis
knew i was mis-rememebring it but couldn’t think of who it was!
How dare you…..Moh and Mesut wre best friends lol. Alexis was sort of the loner in the squad..had his dogs and piano.
I don’t care. Get Wilshere as a U18/U23 coach.
I mean, you cared enough to comment…..
Just wanted to comment as quickly offtopic about Wilshere. Guess nobody agrees. Fair enough
Yeah, not sure that’s why you got down voted
Also fair enough. I got down voted for the “don’t care”, which was admittedly harsh but didn’t mean to offend. Hence I fully accept the downvotes and stick by my call for Wilshere.
You’ve probably seen it all over social media, but here goes: Arsenal will have Mohammed and Jesus in their side next season!
Couldn’t be happier for Elneny. Also it goes ahead to show how below par Aubameyang was that he didn’t make the cut. Not trolling as I like him and respect what he did for us but what a year he’s had!
I think he played one game for gabon in this last afcon.
might affect it?
Happy for Mo and happy for Arsenal! Well deserved!!
Past loan move was great, came back leaner and meaner. I’ve always liked him, he’s not super creative, but is consistently good and useful… Maybe with some more regular playing time in the PL he can get that confidence to do riskier and more rewarding passes, but he’s got a great engine and attitude, and we’re from the same continent!
Have you noticed he controls the deep midfield in a triangle… Pyramid player he is ; )
Congrats Mo! 👏
Well deserved nomination
He is our Egyptian Pirlo.😄
