Arsenal’s Europa League group stage opponents confirmed

The draw for the 2022/23 Europa League group stages has been made and Arsenal are in Group A with PSV Eindhoven, Bodo/Glimt and FC Zurich.

The matches will take place on Thursdays between now and the first week of November. There will then be a three-month break before the competition resumes in mid-February. The final is being hosted by Budapest on 31 May.

Matchday 1: 8 September 2022
Matchday 2: 15 September 2022
Matchday 3: 6 October 2022
Matchday 4: 13 October 2022
Matchday 5: 27 October 2022
Matchday 6: 3 November 2022

Looking ahead, October looks like a horribly busy month for Mikel Arteta’s squad.

In addition to three Europa League matches, the Gunners have six Premier League fixtures to fulfil, including four at home versus Sp*rs, Liverpool, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest and away trips to Leeds and Southampton.

For any players frustrated by a lack of minutes at the moment, their time will come.

We’ll bring details of the confirmed dates/kick-off times as soon as we have it.

Eindhoven will be easy PSV, Bodo will give us a Glimts of our future, and we should be well insured against Zurich.

Johnny 4 Hats

Thing is with the Norwegians, you just don’t know how they are going to play.

Will we get the Glimt, the Bodo, or the ugly?

Cooked Patino

Pretty sure Arteta knows how they play. He wouldn’t hand the captain’s armband to one of them if he didnt

Pete Plum

Oh come on

Johnny 4 Hats

I know. My writing staff are currently on strike so I’m flying solo.

I am in talks to sign the old show runner of Will and Grace but I’m not sure if I’ll get it done before Sept 1st.

LoonyLeftie

That was awful. You should be ashamed of that.

Johnny 4 Hats

Without being too cocky, we could comfortably get out of any Europa group.

I’m just happy we aren’t travelling too far.

COYG!!!

Up4GrabsNow!

This Van Nistlerooy chap who manages PSV, remind me… Do we bear any ill will dowards that horse mouthed, diving, cheating, elbows-out, greasy, sweaty neanderthal? Let’s bring Keown to the PSV games as a reminder!

Goonerrific

Roll out the Keown

T.A.

Excellent suggestion.

Knirk

Remember Bodø/Glimt beat Roma twice last season, one of the them they won 6-1. Its a club driven by passion and should never be underestimated.

Ray's Parlour

I think we should underestimate every team we play against + not take them seriously, think we’ve already won and make fun of their small stadium.

Sir John King

Spot on! They are currently more of a threat than the Molde side Arsenal beat comfortably in the EL two years ago. But should have way too much for them if we need the points. Also, as they’re from my county in North Norway, please just thump them to avoid any awkwardness for me.

Master Floda

Because the Roma manager is a cunt

Patricia

Yes, I agree. I live in Bodø and this team have real passion. Keep your eyes on the right wing, Joel Mvuka….. he is a real threat

Jack

Nothing toooo far away, always good for the away games

Johnny 4 Hats

Yeah, I reckon you could put Bergkamp in a taxi to all of these…

Johnny 4 Hats

Ok, he might need a dinghy for Bodo.

Johnny 4 Hats

And skis for Switzerland.

Eh?

More miles for Utd

TeeCee

They’ll be pleased. With what they’ve already spent to be shit, what they need to spend to be less shit and FFP, they need the air miles to buy players with.

Gunnersaurus 's brother

Great draw in terms of travel distance and opponents really. Should be a comfortable group win! Hopefully the pitch in Bodø won’t be covered in snow

Up North

The away match in Bodø will be the toughest one. Glimt play excellent fotball, beat Roma 6-0 (!) home and was the better team against Dinamo in the CL qual match. Play on artificial turf and weather conditions if playing in late october /early november can be quite harsh if not used to it. Small capacity (8.200) Not so difficult to travel by plane.

Woolwich Tiern time

If beeds must we have our ow Norwegian to chuck on the mix.

Been in Madrid since a rather young age but suffice to say i reckon we can cope

Henkamp

This is a potentially tricky group if we treat it with kids’ gloves. PSV are always formidable, Bodo Glimt have one of Europe’s best manager prospects at the helm right now…

Having said that, we should be favourites to finish top. Hope we really go for it this year!

Pat Rice and Beans

Do agree, not the easiest of the groups. At least the team will save hours traveling to far east.

IamsterdamGooner

Not the easiest of groups? Come on man! 🤣 we are Arsenal!!
If you think this is tough dude then we have no business being in CL 🤦🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️

Henkamp

You sound like one of the overtly cocky folks on Twitter that have been spouting some arrogant sh*t because we are top of the leauge. Just so you know, Bodoe Glimt and PSV both missed out on CL football by whiskers. So yes, it’s a tough group.

IamsterdamGooner

Mate have you seen some of the CL groups? To call this one tough then what business we look for in one a dem with Ajax, Liverpool, Napoli, Rangers for example. May as well just settle for Europa when a group like this is deemed ‘tough’. Man im not saying its easy, but in context of CL football….

Henkamp

Yeah… that would help a lot.

Boy Bastin

Not bad, but as the article mentions October is a particularly busy month so the strength of the squad will certainly be tested then, if not before.

Woolwich Tiern time

Not having to travel too far east whereas United to have to go out to Moldova.

Bodo looks like its pushing up into the arctic circle mind

Cliff Bastin

Bodoh

DefaultGray

Was hoping for a slightly softer group. Can’t believe we missed out of Dynamo Who, FC Neverheardaya and Union On-Strike…

supergooner24

Good draw if you ask me. I would rather we got decent opponents with low travel millage, than easy ones which require us to travel to the sticks of Europe.

DefaultGray

Fair point. I was hoping for easy games but I suppose you don’t learn anything from those. This standard of competition is more useful for the players but we should still win anyway. COYG

Three Steps Sideways

All light travel games, which is a big plus for the team and the fans. Happy with the draw.

Rob Cugs

Does anyone know when the actual matches will be announced? Who we play on what dates and home vs away?

Nainsley Aitland Miles

Usually just a few hours after the draw is made.

Thierry Bergkamp (non negotiable)

Looking at all the teams in the compertition, Arsenal should really be winning this.
Another thing, with home matches against Liverpool, City and that lot, the 2nd half of the season when the pressure is on, we’ll have some tough away games. You gotta play everybody twice, I suppose

Joy

Third placed Champions League teams come into it in the knockouts, no?

Thierry Bergkamp (non negotiable)

I did forget about that

chepetin

Will be interesting to see who drops down out of that Munich/Barca/Inter group.

pitzkale

Hopefully Macabi Haifa 🙂

mashkeyboardgetusername

I’m looking forward to Tierney turning up in short sleeves for the Bodo away match.

ZurichGunner

Zurich stadium Letzigrund is awful though. Like the stadium of london but worse. 0 atmosphere. However, Im thrilled to be able to go to a game again.

dariusz

Without a doubt, I’ll be watching the game against PSV.
I’ll certainly enjoy watching Arsenal humiliate van Nisterlooy’s side.

Fatgooner

Bodo Glimt? Sounds like a Swedish porn star.

SG_Gooner

He’s Norwegian dude….

chepetin

Mr Fatgooner posts something negative and everyone complains. Now he posts a joke and people complain. He just can’t seem to win….

Fatgooner

Exactly

Yellow Ribbon

Let’s all get ready to sleep then. It’s all going to be extremely easy wins or if an upset arises then an extremely boring loss. Let’s welcome ourselves back to the world of Europa League.

Dave Cee

Looks like the best group possible
