Blackpool have confirmed that Charlie Patino will spend the 2022/23 season on loan at Bloomfield Road.
The England under-19 international joins the Championship club with a view to gaining more experience in senior football having made his debut for Arsenal last season.
Viewed as one of the brightest talents in the Gunners academy, the year ahead will be vital to Patino’s development.
“This is a great opportunity for me, and I think I’m ready to take this on,” he told the Blackpool website. “It’s the next step of my career and I’m really excited to get going.
“I spoke to Danny Ballard and Dujon Sterling [who were previously loaned to Blackpool from Arsenal and Chelsea respectively] before coming to the Club and they were full of praise and said it’s an amazing place to be where everybody is welcome.
“They also mentioned the fans, the Tangerine Army, who are always on their feet at home and away games. I’m just buzzing to play in front of them and show them what I’m about.”
New Seasiders manager Michael Appleton is also clearly chuffed with the acquisition.
“Charlie is a very talented boy and I’m delighted that Arsenal have trusted us to look after him and further his development,” he said.
“The Club has a good relationship with Arsenal from previous loan deals, as I have personally from taking players to my former clubs, with Brooke Norton-Cuffy being the most recent last season.
“Charlie is one of the best midfielders in his age group and I can’t wait to start working with him.”
Best of luck to Charlie at Blackpool.
Our loan policy seems much better than our sales these days. I hope he’s going to thrive there, as he’s clearly talented enough to break in the first team. Good luck to you Chsrlie!
Ah, that’s cool that he’ll be playing under the same manager as the notorious BNC did so well under.
Perhaps we could forge a strong partnership with this Michael Appleton geezer and use his club as a developmental stepping stone for many of our young players.
Also understand that Blackpool employ a similar system in attack as Arsenal play. That’s great to hear it’ll be almost like-for-like.
Ah great, so Blackpool also play with inverted fullbacks, verticality, two pivots, a fluid isosceles that contracts, a false 3, a luxury DM, 2 wheelbarrows, half a pint of mead, a fox catcher, the ghost of Cedric’s swan impersonation and a tiki taka paddy whacker give the dog a bone.
That’s a bit of luck.
Good stuff. Best of luck Charlie. Have high hopes for this one as do most of us.
Saw him at the Dulwich Hamlet u23 game the other day – him and Matt Smith stood out a mile above everyone else on the pitch. Patino has that classic ‘makes the game slow down’ vibe to him, very relaxed and considered. Will be interesting to see if he can end up having what it takes to make it, would be very exciting to have that kind of player in the midfield again.
Let’s hope Appleton can polish off the rough edges. Develop a patina, if you will.
Tough league the championship, hoping it’ll be good for his physical development. Look forward to seeing this guy back in and around the 1st team next season.
On a separate issue, am I ever glad we didn’t go for Calvert Lewin. Just got injured again in training and out for a month.
Poor Everton.
Don’t feel sorry for Lampard, though. The easiest wager of all time is that he’ll be the first manager sacked this season.
Not sure about first but I definitely have him down to be gone by Christmas with his club circling the drain. Haven’t seen anything from his management that suggests he’s made for the top flight.
This should be Lampard’s last managerial appointment in the PL. His level is currently the Championship or league one. He doesn’t have the tactical chops to cut it in the PL nor the leadership qualities as he’s always throwing his players under the bus.
Just imagine if Usmanov had 100% of the club…
Good luck Charlie
Hopefully yet another future LANS.
Let’s hope he does a Saliba and ESR on it and comes back to ready to play! Good luck!
Unbelievable that Bayern get 50m for Lewandowski and we get nothing for Auba
Pogba, Dybala, etc, it’s not uncommon.
Not that unbelievable, he was shit when we sold him and he’s still shit now. Clubs don’t pay fees for shit players, except Arsenal during the dark times when the frog man was making the deals. Hard to sell players on high wages who don’t score goals when that’s their job.
