Great podcast, thanks Tim, Pippa and Alex.

From ManU – Alessia Russo, from Chelsea – Guro Reiten and from Man City – Keira Walsh.
But if we can choose anyone at all from any club – Jonsdottir, Russo and Oberdorf.

(*waits expectantly*)

Add Lina Magull from Bayern Munich please

Great to hear that the Lionesses’ open letter was Lotte Wubben-Moy’s idea. Her outreach kids will take note, I’m sure.
That young woman is already displaying leadership and she will go far in life, in and out of football.

To hear it said that Jonas is not going to play Miedema as a 9 anymore–because she’s not his type of striker–makes me think Eidevall is nuts. She’s been one of the most prolific scorers in the game for a few years–playing…the traditional 9. Blackstenius’ strength is the counter-attacking run; beyond that, I didn’t see a lot from her at the 9. Two good players, but who can say that making Miedema a 10 and Stina the 9 really paid dividends last year? And are you going to win the CL with a midfield of Little, Walthi and Viv?

Fun Gunner

I think you heard wrong! Playing at 10 is Miedema’s preference. I’m willing to bet we see a large number of goals as well as assists from her in that position this season.

We’re probably not going to win the CL, true, but not because of our midfield.

In the games Arsenal started them together in the WSL they won all but one, a 0-0 draw at Chelsea. Miedema’s goal rate was better as a 10 than as a 9 for Jonas. I’d say it worked pretty well.

Hi, Tim. Off topic, but do you think the 7 Deadly Sins article is worth its own post?

Miedema stunk the gaff last season playing as a 9 both with Arsenal and Holland. Teams figured her out. As a 10 or half 9 she kills them as they are naïve to her movement. I would trust Jonas more than you, because even she appreciates being played where she is now.

Good comment and I very much agree with you. I think Miedema will be more effective as a 10 because she’ll find pockets of space and then be able to influence the game. She can run at defenders and shoot from distance (as we saw to great effect against Aston Villa) as well as play through balls for Blackstenius and others. She’s an excellent footballer and not simply a deadly striker, so in my opinion you get the best of all her skills in the 10 role. Ultimately she prefers playing that position and the more comfortable she is in… Read more »

Just give up on your one man crusade, already! Viv prefers 10, Jonas prefers her as a 10, she is more effective for the team as a 10, and as I have said before, for several seasons she played at 9 and we won sod all because we relied on her to score all of our goals and she was quite easily nullified by all but the most incompetent defences! She will not only score goals popping up out of midfield areas but she will also assist others in scoring plus she will be more involved in the games giving… Read more »

I’ve never heard Miedema say she prefers playing the 10. Where as she said that? I can see why it would appeal to her in certain ways, she played it early in her career, but let’s ask this question: Did Arsenal score more last year with the new arrangement? I don’t think so. Was the team better against the big opponents? No. “Teams figured her out?” That’s crazy. CF’s need good service and need a midfield that is good enough in attack to draw defenders. If you don’t get good service and play from your other forwards and midfield, you,… Read more »
