Arsenal have confirmedconfirmed that Folarin Balogun will spend the 2022/23 season on loan with Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims.
The deal represents a coup for the French side given several Premier League clubs offered the 21-year-old a chance to continue his development in England.
Reims had a gap in their attack to fill after loaning star striker Hugo Ekitike to Paris Saint Germain – a deal that will see the 20-year-old join the French champions permanently next summer – and hope that Balogun can be the man to keep them in the goals.
The England under-21 international committed his long-term future to Arsenal last summer and spent the second half of the 21/22 campaign on loan with Middlesbrough. He made 21 appearances for the Riverside outfit scoring three goals and making three assists.
His only appearance during the Gunners’ pre-season preparations was a 22-minute cameo against Freiburg nearly a month ago, so he may well need some time to get up to speed in France.
Best of luck, Flo.
Yep, good stuff.
Another LANS this time next year, hopefully.
Lans as in…. Henry Lansbury?…..
Let’s hope he bangs ’em in!
He’ll just go with the flow…
It probably means a 3rd choice striker will have to be signed. Martinelli or Pepe could fill in, but can’t see Arteta going into the season with only 2 recognised strikers.
You’d think so, we’d be silly to go till January with just 2 strikers, especially with the luck we have with injuries but I can see Martinelli being used as an option if needs must
Well given there is 6 weeks off for the World Cup, maybe we don’t think it’s a big deal and can get through 3 months of football?
“Reims had a gap in their attack to fill after loaning star striker Hugo Ekitike to Paris Saint Germain .”
It would have been reims of them to not address this need.
You are a Genius my friend. 😆😆😆
Deserves a reimshot, that’s for sure!
You may have been stripped of the Reims Punmaster title last year, but I’m of the opinion you should be reimstated.
Another club with a great history, though a long time ago. Less likely than in the Championship to be battered about, more likely to get some space and a bit of creative freedom. At least I hope that’s the logic.
Forgive my potential ignorance but when did we play Freiburg.
We played Nürnberg didn’t we
Blog meant nurnberg, and not freiburg
Watching the man he is replacing and I can’t help but think
1. Balogun is a Tiger compared to Hugo
2. he’s the type of Next rated rubbish (not good enough) youth prospect forward Arsene would have brought to Arsenal this summer
Oh our team is full of youth prospects
Was it Freiburg or Nürnberg?
A good league for him to get plenty of games and build his confidence in front of goal. I can see him doing well there
I think it’s cool that he goes abroad. It will be a valuable experience off the pitch as well.
