Arsenal Women draw Ajax in UWCL qualifier

Arsenal Women will play Ajax in a two legged Champions League qualifier to determine who gets through to the tournament group stages. The Gunners will play the first leg at Meadow Park on 20/21 September with the second leg in Amsterdam a week later.

If they win, Arsenal will qualify for the group stages where all three of their home games would be played at Emirates Stadium. Of the other WSL sides, Chelsea automatically qualify for the group stages and Manchester City were knocked out in the preliminary round by Real Madrid. Arsenal remain the only British team to have won the competition when they lifted the trophy in 2007.

Meanwhile, the club have now sold over 38,500 tickets for the North London derby at Emirates Stadium on 24 September which represents a WSL record. The current record occurred in the reverse fixture in November 2019, though on that day Spurs gave away a few thousand tickets for free. Arseblog News is told that all of the 38,500+ tickets sold so far have been paid for.

Could have been worse. Fairly confident of sneaking into the group stages.

Funny to see Man City getting knocked out for the second consecutive season by the same opponent.

The fact that all tickets were paid for is quite a feat. Most of the highly attended club football matches in the women’s game involve free tickets
