Beth Mead wins BBC Sports Personality of the Year

Arsenal forward Beth Mead has been voted the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year for 2022. She is the first female footballer to ever win the prize, which dates back to 1954.

Mead won the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament as the England Lionesses won Euro 2022 on home soil, beating Germany in the final. Mead was also voted Arsenal.com and the Arsenal Women Supporters Club Player of the Season for 2021-22.

Mead, who signed a new contract with the club last week and is currently recovering from an ACL injury, makes history as the first female footballer ever to land the award. It represented a clean sweep for England’s Women’s team at the awards, the Lionesses won team of the year and Sabrina Wiegman was voted Coach of the Year.

A big congratulations to Beth.

Absolutely amazing! I’m also stunned and delighted to hear about the Team and Coach awards for the Lionesses and Sarina Wiegman.
Congratulations, Beth. I hope it makes your recovery a little easier.

Seriously, who is the utter Twat downvoting these posts?

You sad sad individual. 😞

Collibosher

Probably the same twat who has dozens of identities on BBC sport harping on about “woke” and “political correctness”.

Horse breath

It’s full of them. They’re scared of successful female sport people, but too cowardly to use their real name.

Probably some trolling jerk from that title-averse lot across town. How do I know? Once in a while (especially when they’ve just lost) I pop into one of their sites to take the mickey.

Chris

Big well done to Beth Mead, only just got into women’s football but based on what I’ve seen this is very well deserved!

Horse breath

Deserves it legend.

Congrats, Mead. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Cheers 😍
