Arteta, Saka and Ramsdale up for Premier League awards

Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsdale have been nominated by the Premier League for January’s manager and save of the month awards respectively while Bukayo Saka is up for the player and goal of the month awards.

Arteta guided his side to wins over Sp*rs and Manchester United after starting the new year with a 0-0 draw over Newcastle United.

The Spaniard is in the race for a third monthly gong of the season but faces stiff competition from Nottingham Forest’s Steve Cooper (2 wins & 2 draws), Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi (2 wins & 1 draw), Aston Villa’s Unai Emery (3 wins & 1 draw) and Brentford Thomas Frank (2 wins & 1 draw). Vote for manager of the month.

Ramsdale’s brilliant left foot save to deny Ryan Sessegnon was at the heart of his man-of-the-match performance in the north London derby.

The keeper, who now has nine clean sheets to his name this season, goes up against ex-Gunners Lukasz Fabianski and Emiliano Martinez, Chelsea’s Kepa Arriazabalaga, glass-wristed David de Gea and Newcastle’s Nick Pope. Vote for save of the month.

Saka has been in fine form since returning from the World Cup and notched another assist and goal during January. All the same, he must be an outsider for the player of the month award given he’s up against three players who registered three goals each in January; Brighton’s Solly March, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford. Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson, Newcastle’s Dan Burn and Brentford’s David Raya also make the shortlist. Vote for player of the month.

The quality of the England international’s cracking left-foot curler in last Sunday’s 3-2 win over United has also been recognised with a spot on the goal of the month shortlist. He goes up against Brighton trio Solly March, Danny Welbeck, Kaoru Mitoma, United’s Marcus Rashford, Wolves’ Daniel Podence, Palace’s Michael Olise and ex-Arsenal player Harry Kane. Vote for goal of the month.

Headline could have been: ARS up for Premier League awards

C.B.

Or ‘Up the ARS for the PL awards’ to encourage voting. I have voted.

Good luck to them!

Chapeau

Arsenal and Exes up for Premier League Awards

Sean

Did all the usual Arsenal voting on those first three, but couldn’t resist- HAD to go for Welbeck in the last category!

Merlin’s Panini

He shinned that volley though. Classic Welbeck.

Jesus of Sao Paulo

Against the mugsmashers none the better!

Ebo

How the f is Odegaard not nominated for POTM?

Sean

Haha it honestly wouldn’t surprise me if the premier league just felt the urge to mix things up so a different player has a chance of winning it this month

C.B.

He did win it last month but he is better than all the others nominated (bar Saka possibly) by some way. Though only one goal and one assist in the PL in January.

Ebo

Ooh that’s right, the Brighton and West Ham matches were both less than a month ago but it wasn’t January just yet.

Still, i we’ve gone back to goals and assists being the primary way of evaluating players then something’s wrong. Zinchenko should be nominated too.

Sheldon

Am I the only one who thinks Saka has had a better season than Odegaard? Really don’t know why he is not in the conversation for player of the season.

Ebo

I’m sure you’re not the only one. I’d say it’s pretty close, I shudder to think where we’d be without either of them. For me Marty gets the slight edge because of how he helps his teammates, both with his passing and leadership

Brady’s bunch

They bring the best out of each other. Ode is a player I’d watch for 90mins absolute joy to watch and clearly is playing the best football of his career, we’re very lucky to have him. Saka star boy, Arsenal through and through another joy to watch and who’s talent has no ceiling, we truly are blessed to witness what these lads can achieve.

Merlin’s Panini

It took Saka a few weeks to really get going. Odegaard has been the focal point of the team.

Badaab

You all know what to do.

Boy Bastin

It would have been a travesty if they hadn’t been nominated. Let’s hope they are successful.

Emi Rates

De Gea for worst dive of the season award!

Scrubbychubby

Yeah he should be discounted for that outrageous bit of cheating alone.
