Arsenal to complete pre-season prep with trip to Wembley

Arsenal will face Manchester City in the Community Shield on 6 August to round off their pre-season preparations for the 2023/24 campaign.

The traditional curtain-raiser usually pitches the winners of the Premier League against the winners of the FA Cup but after City beat neighbours Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final, the invitation was extended to the Gunners who finished second in the league.

The two sides have only faced each other once in the Community Shield with Arsenal beating City 3-0 in August 2014 thanks to goals from Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud. We’ve won it three further times since then to take our total tally to 16 wins.

Arsenal’s pre-season preparations will start at London Colney in early July. As was the case last year, we’ll then spend a short stint at adidas HQ in Germany before playing FC Nurnberg in a friendly.

Mikel Arteta then takes his squad to the USA for friendlies with an MLS All-Star XI, Manchester United and Barcelona.

It’s possible a further fixture could be squeezed in between the return from Los Angeles and the trip to Wembley.

As an aside, the fixtures for the new Premier League campaign will be released on 15 June.

Wembley has been good to us in the past. I guess, no better way to assess if we’re ready for the next season than this match. I hope we smash them in the league! We’re due

Your comment got me curious about our Wembley record.

Turns out; Played 58, won 30, drew 8, lost 20.

Not exactly on topic but:
Can anyone please let me know the process/procedure to buy tickets for the nürnberg game? Do I need to be a member to buy tickets for friendlies? I’m been supporting The Arsenal since 23 years but being a foreign supporter, I’ve never had the chance to watch our team live. Would love to finally get a chance to see them live in action! If anyone has any leads please let me know!
Thanks!!

Maybe check arsenal.com for ticketing details?

The club have yet to officially announce the Nurnburg game. When they do, there will be ticket details announced at the same time. I think last year they were on general sale as far as I remember.

It’ll be on the official Arsenal website but you could also monitor the Nürnberg website for information.

Last season the attendance was 45,000 in a 50,000 stadium. Now that Arsenal are a Champions League club again and a bigger attraction to casual fans, this one could sell out, so check regularly.

Thanks everyone!
I’ll monitor both websites and fingers crossed I get lucky 🤞🏼

15th June you say?

*Licks lips in anticipation*

Let’s hope we can get the Etihad out of the way before Christmas.

Aaah, I love the Charity Shield (yes, that’s what it is to me; ‘Snickers’ bars will always be ‘Marathons, vinyl will always triumph over any other music media and adidas should reinstate the trefoil logo.

A hot sunny day, new signings, new kits and that lovely feeling that football is back.

No better opportunity to let City know early doors who’s Boss as well.

Roll on August! 😊

No Emirates Cup this year?

But which team will Gundogan be playing for?

He should copy that wrestling skit where he comes out wearing a Man City tracksuit, then he takes it off to reveal an Arsenal kit underneath.

Barcelona aren’t playing in the community shield

Qwaliteee

Barcelona haven’t got a pot to piss in.

A Different George

The Community Shield was never really a competitive natch, which you could tell because they allowed five subs. Oh, wait.

So, if we win, let’s refer to it as the English Super Cup which means we are the real champions of England. Like teams call themselves World Champions when they win the “Club World Cup.”

Qwaliteee

Take the piss all you want, it’s an older competition than the European Cup/Champions League.

Fenner

Gotta win them all, because you never know if in like 30 years they elevate the trophy from non-competitive to one that means something.

Orelem

That Giroud goal against City in the Community Shield was an absolute beauty.

Ozzie

No Borehamwood? 🙁

Glenn

There’s an “Arsenal XI” fixture against Boreham Wood, where mainly youth players will play – it’s on July 29th.

A moment of silence for any of us red members trying to get tickets for Wembley…

Qwaliteee

Rock up on the day and offer a tour face value five minutes before kickoff.

If they refuse, simply say “Ok fine” turn and walk away. I guarantee they will chase after you, having quickly changed their mind in order to get their money back on a ticket that has seconds to live…

Good luck! 👍🍺😉
