Arsenal Women confirm signing of Cloé Lacasse

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Canadian forward Cloé Lacasse from Benfica, confirming our June 20th story of Lacasse’s imminent arrival. Lacasse scored five goals in last season’s UWCL group stage in games against Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Rosengård.

She was also named Player of the Season in Portugal last season where she scored 22 goals, the most in the division, and had 14 assists, also the most in the division. She will be playing for Canada in the World Cup this summer.

Arsenal were very interested in Lacasse in the January transfer window and the player was very willing to join but the deal stalled over Benfica’s price tag, with the player contracted until 2024. Now they have got their player. We recommend this profile of the player from Total Football Analysis, Lacasse can play all across the front three and adds depth to a frontline that also ought to be adding Alessia Russo to their ranks in the coming days.

“I’m super excited and enthusiastic to get started here,” said Cloe. “I feel ready mentally and physically to be able to contribute here and win titles and I feel that this club has everything it takes to compete for the highest honours. I want to go to the next level and score goals here for Arsenal.”

Head Coach Jonas Eidevall said: “I’m really pleased that we have signed Cloe to strengthen our forward line here at Arsenal. Cloe is a proven goalscorer and has shown her quality over a number of seasons in two European leagues as well as the Champions League. She will add a different dimension to our attacking game and I’m looking forward to working with her.”

Head of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “Cloe is a player we have been monitoring for some time so we’re delighted to have completed this signing. Cloe’s record is very impressive and we believe she has the right qualities to slot straight into our playing style here at Arsenal. I’m sure our supporters will be excited to see Cloe in the red and white.”

Lacasse is Arsenal’s second signing of the summer after the arrival of Swedish defender Amanda Ilestedt with Alessia Russo expected to follow next week.

Big welcome and congratulations to Cloe Lacasse – she has come up the hard way, and I wish her all success in the biggest move of her career to date. Another versatile Caitlin Foord/Beth Mead style forward and an absolute killer in front of goal.
Great scouting and well done to Arsenal Women.

Super signing!!!
Get Lessi to put her pen to paper too and we might be setting some WSL scoring records next season!
At last we might start to bury a greater proportion of the hundreds of chances we make in front of goal.

Ode’s big sis ⚽

Great news!
I hope she can play on the right wing as well, or switch sides. Her and Caitlin Foord on the pitch at the same time on the wings would give the opposing team an absolute headache.

From the videos I have watched she has played off of both wings and seems very two-footed…

Totally agree. Seems quick and nimble as well. I suspect that all three of Lacasse, Mead and Foord will be vying for the title of Most Soul-Destroying Forward To Have To Play Against.

Yeah! A Canadian on Arsenal. Go Canada!

How old is she?

Dr Papagei

29, and given her birthday on Wiki, she will be 30 in seven days time
