Arsenal set to unveil Arsene Wenger statue

For the first time since his 2018 departure, Arsene Wenger returned to Arsenal last season to see a team managed by one of his former captains beat West Ham 3-1.

Now, the former boss is set to become a permanent fixture outside the stadium, with a bronze statue set to be unveiled later this summer.

Arsene will join another ex-boss, Herbert Chapman, along with legendary former players Tony Adams, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.

In The Athletic, Amy Lawrence describes this project as a ‘delicate process’, in part due to the wounds left after he ended his 22 year tenure in North London. Thankfully, the healing process has begun, and current boss Mikel Arteta made it clear on more than one occasion that he felt Wenger’s presence at the club would be beneficial for everyone.

We’ll have to wait and see what pose he will be cast in, we have some suggestions below.

I vote beach pose. best photo ever.

Jeremy

That or the water slide one.

Johnny 4 Hats

Doesn’t matter what pose they choose.

When asked for his thoughts on the statue, he won’t have seen it.

Daveo

I’m thinking an image like those insanely funny Trump cards. Change the “T” to an “A” and an Arsenal Flag in the background…?

No takers? Fair enough…

Gunner1971

Haha

I can imagine it being unveiled before him for the first time and he remarks “hmmm, it’s like a new statue!”

Gunner1971

Seriously though, surely it has to be fists pumped forward like when we score a goal or otherwise the 2nd last one on that list.

jw1

See, I think it should be one of him in a losing battle with his full-length coat zipper.

Determination Cultured

That’s how we can attract players to join us

Vieiraera

Same here😂😂😂. Seriously this is long overdue. What a man! #legend ❤️. Another proof to Rice that by joining us, he’s taking a chance at immortality rather become just another brick in Citeh’s wall. What a time to be alive!!!

ArseSplat

What about Wenger’s Battle of the Zipper” pose?

Dennis Asiimwe

I was about to suggest this…

Amacranian

The Zipper won. 🙂

Alberto Balsam Mendez Rodriguez

Yep, grinning whilst fighting his zipper

Saka Rice

puffer jacket pose please

AlexNuggz

I do love the Old Trafford pose when he got sent to the stands! Such a legend and so happy he is finally reconnecting with the club!

Rufusstan

Agreed although he second photo is not the best image of if. I still have it as my desktop wallpaper all these years later.

A Different George

I know it won’t happen for commercial reasons, but of course the stadium should be named for him.

Dlo

Totally agree. After all, he went a long way to making the stadium possible

Daveo

Wengerdom?

Rufusstan

I think they missed a trick there. Welcome to the Wengerdome has a ring to it.

OdalGooner

They could get the Wengaboys to play at the unveiling…

“The Wenger-bus is coming…”

Sorry, I’ll show myself out.

Vonnie

No.

John

Emirates struck a marketing pot of gold with that branding. and there is no way they are letting go off that now when our club is in such ascendancy!!

wrightstuff8

init.
That would be class

thw14

Team up with the watch company and name it the Arsene + Wenger stadium.

Mark

Everyone should just start calling it Wenger Stadium. Fuck the sponsors. It’s only the club that’s under the naming contract.

iGooner

“Arsene knows”

Because that smile after winning the league at Shite Hart Lane is infectious and epic.

Kiwamya

Wrighty next surely?

wrightstuff8

100

Sly

I reckon he should be planking Herbert Chapman

Merlin’s Panini

Love it. Or contorting his body into the W formation.

Ealing

With his Invincibles gold cup

Ausdrexler

About time.

DefaultGray

Have the title photo from this article with both hands raised. Let it become tradition to high-five Arsene on the way into the stadium

BumpyLanes

Statue in bronze holding “the” gold trophy aloft.

shokim

Long overdue for our legendary manager. Well deserved.

Heavenly Chapecoense

Wenger was probably with Cruyff the two who contributed the most to the aesthetics of the game.

North Bank Gooner

Shoving Mourinho pose?

Chris

Him fumbling the zip on the Big Coat

Pauly

Has to be the pose where he’s holding the golden trophy aloft after his last home game

Billy bob

Can’t believe it took this long!!! I like the last photo with both cups held aloft – would have to have CCTV on it as I suspect spuds might try stealing them for their dust ridden trophy cabinet!!! Never forgive them for beating arsenal in the semi and forest in the fa cup final back in 91

Merlin’s Panini

there are so many Wenger poses I’d like to see. The knowing interview smile when he’s just bagged a good transfer would be nice.

Doofus Rick

Not first choice, but in the running, should be some scene with him hating on Mourinho

or fighting a water bottle

eddymc2

That would require the club paying for a depiction of Mourinho. I’d hope not.

OdalGooner

We could use a pile of poo. It’d be appropriate for Moronho *and* that lot down the road/league table.

Cygan’sbaldspot

Dad?

Huck

Do love that double winning hold.

Gooney Tunes

Arms up at Shite Hart Lane, for sure.

Arsene Knows.

Jen

Puffy coat zip!

Ozzie

I vote Vick Akers in his shorts next.

Nick

You’ve left out his frustrated zipper pose!

Tomiyasu vain

Like the 2nd one but surely rhat would have to be put in place in the stands of old trafford….. stuggling with the coat zip for me surely

Big Dave

He became a statute 10 years before he was let go, However befitting for him to be honoured for the first 9 years of his 23 year reign

Ekasi Daniel

I go for the double trophy handling image.
