Arsenal goalkeeeper Kaylan Marckese will join newly promoted Bristol City on loan for the 2023-23 season. The American joined the Gunners last summer from Koge in Denmark but found her appearances restricted, starting the season as the clear number two to Manu Zinsberger.
The January signing of Canadian international Sabrina D’Angelo further blocked Marckese’s path and she will now join Bristol City for 2023-24 with Naomi Williams, who signed a pro contract in May, will now be the third choice goalkeeper.
Gio is another player who could go out on loan, her loan spell to Everton last season was cut short due to the injury situation. With Beth Mead due back soon, Vivianne Miedema due back during the winter and Cloe Lacasse and Alessia Russo now on board, the attack looks crowded.
Just had a lovely chat with @Kaylan_Marckese about a career that has taken her from her native US, to Iceland, Denmark and now Arsenal.

As you would expect, Arsenal have scouts and coaching staff in Australia and New Zealand at the World Cup with Jonas Eidevall also expected to fly out for the knockout stages. (Their brief will also include watching existing players in the squad).
We are not currently aware of an imminent signings save for one offer for a player with several offers to weigh up, whose future is set to be decided after the World Cup. (That doesn’t mean that other stuff isn’t happening, of course, it’s just that that is all we know at the moment). I expect Arsenal to try to add another midfielder and another defender before the end of the window, at this stage.
Elin Rubensson would be a good choice of a midfielder to sign to our squad 🙂
She has really improved on the 6 position. However I don’t see what the point is of signing another 30 yo. Besides I think she’s pretty settled at her club and has a house and a family and stuff.
I think we might have to buy another player from Benfica, I’ve been really impressed by Christy Ucheibe.
Honestly, she is a good midfield general, with her age too, it is a signing for now and future
Good luck to Kaylan, hopefully she will get plenty of starts.
Yes good luck to her on her loan. She really impressed when she played against us in the CL but I was surprised that we signed her to be honest. Presumably Manu was expected to depart which would have left us short but then bringing Sabrina in also we were well overstocked with keepers. With Fran gone (hope she makes a decent career for herself) and Kaylan on loan we look more balanced in squad numbers.
I think she was a bit of a stop gap signing because we couldn’t get Sabrina until the winter window.
This explains why Sabrina was registered in the CL list in Feb ahead of Gio.
Does this loan move free up a squad place, or will Naomi Williams be an official squad member with a number? I notice she isn’t listed on the Arsenal.com squad page, but that may mean nothing.
The Arsenal squad page still has Jody Taylor included. I thought her short term contract had expired. Whoever updates the women’s section at Arsenal.com always appear to be a day or several behind the action!
There seem to be so many good players, I don’t know how the scouts pick out the ones who have that little bit extra, or who just looks good because of the players around her.
