Post-Brentford quotes round-up: Arteta, Nelson, Frank, Elneny

Reiss Nelson was the matchwinner as Arsenal beat Brentford 1-0 to set up a Carabao Cup 4th Round tie with West Ham United.

Here’s what the players and managers had to say after the game…

__

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal’s defensive effort…

We had some really good blocks in the box, some really big defensive moments, especially one when Aaron made a save and I think the ball hit the post, so really pleased with everybody, especially now that we have a lot of injuries, and really pleased that we find a way to win this game and stay in the competition.

Thomas Frank on Brentford’s performance…

I asked for a bounce-back performance from the players, and they gave me that. First half good, second half was top. We pushed Arsenal back, created a lot of good chances and were very unlucky not to score. The margins didn’t drop our way. I was very pleased with the performance and that’s what we need to continue with going into the game [against Nottingham Forest] on Sunday. We pressed very well, very high and we created the chances you can ask for in a game like this. On another day, they go in the back of the net.

Reiss Nelson on Emile Smith Rowe’s return…

I am really pleased, but I know he’s going to be upset because he done a nice bit of trickery in the box and should’ve scored a hundred percent, but he’s a great player, great lad and one of the best players I’ve played with, been through the whole rankings with him, so congrats on your 100th game mate!

Mo Elneny on his return after his knee injury…

Mikel Arteta on Elneny’s return…

He fully deserves that, it’s been a long, long process for him. He’s put a lot of hours and work, and it’s credit as well to all the physios and the medical department because we need him. He brings something special to the team and I’m really pleased that he played some minutes today.

I’m sure Cedric could help the team by keeping them hydrated from the sidelines …. Please not at right back

If you squint, you can see him warming up at the back of the photo for the goal celebration

Disrespectful.
He is one of ours!

Agreed. I think Blogs creates this narrative. He always slams Cedric and then refers to that dick right back from Liverpoo as “Trent”. He plays for those scouse wankers – he’s a shit head!!!! Whereas Cedric is one of us and always gives his all when called upon.

So happy to see Mo back! Genuinely one of my favourite players at the club. A guy that gives everything he has every minute he’s plays and just a stand up dude! Hope he becomes a coach, maybe space for him to work with per?

Tankard Gooner

Let him play man. Something about watching him on the pitch just makes me smile. He could easily go to Saudi in a year’s time and still play for a few more seasons.

Daveo

I agree, I enjoy watching Mo much more over a couple other mercs we have.

Ozzie

Completely agree, and glad to hear he’s been doing his coaching badges at the club. Would love to see him and Santi C as Mikel’s sidekicks, we’d have the happiest dressing room in football!

Nice to see a clean sheet, we don’t have enough of them.
