Arsenal Youth preview – U18s take on Middlesbrough

After a two week absence, Arsenal U18s will return to action tomorrow when they face Middlesbrough away in the Premier League Cup.

The young Gunners drew at home to West Ham United in their first group game and still have to take on Derby County away, but they will be especially determined to get the better of Middlesbrough and register their first win in the competition this season.

Much of the build-up to this game has been dominated by uncertainty over the future of coach Jack Wilshere, who has been linked with the Colorado Rapids job.

It remains to be seen whether Wilshere will be heading to the United States but given that he hasn’t been appointed yet it seems likely that he will remain in charge of the U18s tomorrow.

Arsenal came from behind to beat Leicester 2-1 in their last league game, although strikers Chido Obi-Martin and Omari Benjamin were both sent off. As a consequence, both players could miss the game against Middlesbrough, which could present an opportunity for Daniel Oyetunde to impress.

Kamarni Ryan, who can play out wide or in a more central position, will also be looking to start after impressing as a substitute against Leicester.

Winger Osman Kamara produced some impressive performances earlier in the season before suffering an injury but the 17-year-old could be back available.

Jeorge, I’ll like to know more about the potential of Chido Obi, who is not only of Nigerian descent and igbo heritage as myself, but also had my brother’s first name.
I’m sceptical of tall strikers at youth level, because of their capacity to dominate due to their sheer size and strength, but usually flatter to deceive once their peers catch up.
So, what’s his potential, Mr Jeorge Bird? Thanks.

Evaristus

Ok thank you
