Date confirmed for FA Cup showdown with Liverpool

Arsenal’s FA Cup third round clash against Liverpool at Emirates Stadium will take place on Sunday 7 January at 4.30pm. In the UK, the match will be broadcast by the BBC.

While the draw was far from kind to the Gunners, the fixture at least falls at a relatively convenient point in the calendar.

The Gunners will have a week to prepare for the visit of the Reds following the New Year’s Eve clash at Fulham and then have 13 days off for a ‘winter break’ before tackling Crystal Palace on 20 January.

As it stands, we’ll play Liverpool three times in 43 days. We head to Anfield in the league on 23 December and Jurgen Klopp’s players will be back at the Emirates for the return game on 3 February.

Presumably, if our FA Cup clash requires a replay, a fourth match (at Anfield) will also be squeezed in. Hopefully, it doesn’t come to that.

I had a controversial thought today. See if you agree:

The best goalkeeper that Mikel Arteta has had at his disposal is Emi Martinez.

Maybe, but he’s a twat and doesn’t fit this very likeable squad.

Fair point. But we probably wouldn’t like Ben White if he wasn’t a gooner.

I sometimes think the things you hate about other teams players are the things you love about your own players.

Haha yea, there’s definitely more than a shred of truth in that.

Heavenly Chapecoense

Me, I have been very clear on this subject. I want winners not ideal sons-in-law. Our invincible squad was almost a bunch of nice guys who can win but even that squad did have a couple of big egos.

Do you say that about Ben White cos he’s a cheeky bastard on the pitch? Feel like Emi is also a prick off the pitch. Not sure if Ben White is – I know he had a falling out at the England camp but who can blame him for that

Deano

Enjoyed the goal he scored for us last season. Hopefully he’ll do it again.

Bleeding gums murphy

Not in doubt for me.

Another thought would be that if he had not been sold would Arsenal have been able to sign either or both of partey or gabriel 3 months later?

Off subject but Newc and Spuds both lost tonight. Loving these mid-week games!

Off subject: This season is so important to us now. Man City look so weak now. They are clearly suffering from a massive hangover from last season and are in deep trouble. Even top four might be a problem for them. So the title is there to be won. And we have to make sure that we take it. It’s between us and Liverpool – and we’ve got to make sure that it’s us. We must make 2 or 3 quality signings in January: that could yet us over the line. We need a defender, a DM and a striker… Read more »

I won’t conclude that City will struggle for top 4 based on their current bad form. They will rise again imo.
Regarding ourselves, yes we need some good signings to backup the injury crisis.

Well excited, nervous and enthralled to see the game v villa . They showed their strength in kamara, tielemans,Luiz and mcginn as outlet . They have power but lads who can pick a pass . It’s hard to know what’s our best plan to meet fire with fire and go Martin, Rice and Kai or go more pragmatic with Jorgi in there . Probably best to keep jorgi to finish the game . Leo to start if martinelli not 100% after them knocks . Zincks at LB is going to be busy v Bailey, maybe it’s reason he started Kiwior… Read more »

Lovely way to spend my 34th birthday. Last 2 games on my birthday we’ve been knocked out by Forest so hopefully this goes a different route
