Maanum starts for Arsenal in North London derby

Jonas Eidevall has made nine changes from Wednesday’s 3-3 draw and subsequent penalty shootout win against Spurs in the Conti Cup for today’s WSL North London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Katie McCabe, who captains the side, and Frida Maanum keeping their places.

Manu Zinsberger is restored in goal with McCabe at right-back, Ilestedt and Wubben-Moy at centre-half and Catley at left-back. Victoria Pelova and Lia Walti play in the midfield double pivot with the trio of Beth Mead, Frida Maanum and Caitlin Foord behind Alessia Russo upfront.

Kim Little is not in the squad with a small injury and the same goes for Lina Hurtig. This is the Gunners’ final game before the winter break and they play again on Sunday, 14 January in the FA Cup.

1.Zinsberger; 15.McCabe, 28.Ilestedt, 3.Wubben-Moy, 7.Catley; 21.Pelova, 13.Walti; 9.Mead, 12.Maanum, 19.Foord; 23.Russo

Subs: 5.Beattie, 11.Miedema, 14.D’Angelo, 16.Maritz, 22.Kuhl, 24.Lacasse, 25.Blackstenius, 27.Codina, 32.Cooney-Cross.

I thought it was said Kim’s injury is not serious?

Sad she couldn’t make it today. Her playing in that deeper role and Pelova in 10, is just perfect. Wishing the ladies a great outing and brilliant end to 2023! COYG

Love it. Bring it on! Come on, Arsenal!
Shame about Kim Little, but best not to take chances, especially with the mid-season break coming next. She will be able to use that time to get fit stress-free – ditto Lina Hurtig.

God really seething at this, so frustrating… Conceding from their only real attack (again!), having lots of possession but only endless half chances (yet again)… Foorde’s bad crosses, very little movement from our forwards… Miedema looked off the pace and too easily knocked off the ball… Only Lotte came out with any credit today (despite the Sky commentators saying she gets sucked out of position, it was Ilstedt running back to goal)

Bad result. Could be third by the end of this weekend. How? How did this happen when they had once chance on goal? Did the player expect to walk this one to an easy win when it took pens mid-week and most starting player today were rested?? So many questions about the teams attitude for this one. Everything gained by the Chelsea win lost against Spurs a week later!!
