Leyton Orient have confirmed that Arsenal prospect Khayon Edwards has signed a six-month loan deal.
The 20-year-old striker has been a mainstay of Mehmet Ali’s under-21s this season scoring nine goals in 14 appearances and was also included in the first team squad for a couple of Europa League games last season.
In his first interview with his new club, Khayon said: “I’m really excited to be joining Leyton Orient. I know that the club were promoted last season and have had a good first half to this season.
“I’m really excited about making the step up to senior football and I have really enjoyed the chances that I have got in the EFL Trophy this season. I hope that I can come in, get my chance and help the club to have a strong second half of the season by scoring some goals.”
He’ll be in contention for a debut against Carlisle United at the weekend.
Arsenal have been busy sorting the short-term future of several prospects today. Charles Sagoe Jr has joined Swansea, Zane Monlouis is off to Reading and Omar Rekik is set to sign for Swiss side Servette.
There have also been permanent departures from the academy. Bradley Ibrahim has signed for Hertha Berlin, Lino Sousa moved to Villa (who subsequently loaned him to Plymouth Argyle) and Miguel Azeez has joined Atletico Baleares in Spain.
Elsewhere, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji has been recalled from his spell at Cheltenham Town.
