Report: Arsenal coach Cuesta on Norwich radar

According to The Guardian, Carlos Cuesta is a candidate to become Norwich City boss should the Canaries part ways with David Wagner in the summer.

Still only 28, the Mallorca-born coach has spent the last nine years working and studying around Europe, building a reputation as one of the continent’s brightest young football minds.

Before joining Arsenal in 2020, Cuesta held positions at Juventus and Atletico Madrid. He first met Arteta while he was assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and is now regarded as one of his manager’s closest confidantes.

It’s claimed that Ben Knapper, who became Sporting Director at Carrow Road in October after 14 years working at Arsenal, is pushing to recruit Cuesta.

The two will have crossed paths regularly at London Colney with Knapper holding the position of Loan Manager and Cuesta’s remit focusing on individual player development.

The report claims several other clubs in the Championship also monitor the Spaniard’s situation should he indicate he’s ready to take the next step in his career.

You better smash that radar right now. Let’s win a few titles first, then you can come for one or two of our talent.
Many thanks.

This may well happen with a lot of Arteta’s young and talented staff.

You might call this the canary in the coal mine.

Ahem.

Football has gone a bit bonkers recently. Like he is 28, has no management experience whatsoever, and to jump from working at Arsenal under Mikel, who is in his first job too… to trying to manage Norwich is a pretty bold career move. Cant say its a good idea, even if he does a good job, I always feel you’re never going to get the same level of respect you would do, if lets say. You disappeared off to Spain, Belgium, Germany etc.. did the same job out there, and then moved to England. Personally its way too earlier for… Read more »

Spot on. You’d have to be fkn mad to hire this guy straight into a gig like Norwich.

The super chill one off of the amazon documentary?! Well Norwich can f*ck right off

The Spanish connection is making havoc. Guardiola, Arteta, Xavi Alonso, Cuesta in the future, moving through space and time with the same tactics.

We should all pray every day Chelsea aren’t smart enough to hire Xabi Alonso. I hope he goes to Barcelona.

A Different George

So far, he has managed his career with good sense. My guess is he stays at Bayer another two years at least, even if he wins the Bundesliga. I know all their supporters want him at Liverpool, but I think he will now it is too early and that replacing Klopp cannot be much better than replacing Ferguson and Wenger. He is Spanish–the logical move is eventually to Madrid. And because of his pedigree, it’s almost impossible to see him at Barca.

Nice perspective, thanks

I hope the conversation between the clubs is in Spanish where they ask us
“¿Cuanto cuesta Cuesta?”
And we answer
“¡Cuesta cuesta un montón! Váyanse a la mierda tios”

Looking at the picture before I read the text I thought it was Martinelli.

Seems like a great guy the way he came across on the documentary, and if he has Arteta’s trust then that speaks volumes as well. It’s natural that when a top team has success, others will start to poach their assistants, hoping they can bring that magic to their club too. Usually though it doesn’t work out like that. Building a culture and maintaining high standards is a team sport and requires buy-in from top to bottom and back up again year after year. It also requires a special individual who can embody those values, and they are a rare… Read more »
