Laia Codina withdraws from Spain squad

Arsenal defender Laia Codina has withdrawn from the Spain squad and will not take part in their Euro 2025 qualifier against Czechia on Tuesday. The Spanish FA have described the issue as ‘muscle discomfort’ which, fingers crossed, sounds precautionary. (Spanish injury bulletins tend to be more detailed than in the UK).

The Gunners are without centre-half Amanda Ilestedt who is pregnant and Leah Williamson had to be withdrawn at half-time during the Conti Cup Final. Williamson has joined up with the England squad but was an unused sub for Friday night’s 1-1 draw with Sweden.

Arsenal play Bristol City at home on Sunday evening. Most of the squad are with their countries this week for Euro 2025 qualifiers, as well as the SheBelieves Cup and Australia have a friendly in San Antonio on Wednesday morning. Frida Maanum withdrew from the Norway squad and will have her heart function monitored after feinting during the Conti Cup Final.

A full rundown of when and where Arsenal players will be playing this week is available here.

I hope it’s nothing serious and a good recovery, that’s why it’s good to have depth in the squad, look at what’s happening, injuries and unforeseen events.
