Confirmed: Reiss Nelson joins Fulham on loan

Arsenal have confirmed that Reiss Nelson has joined Fulham on loan for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old joins Marco Silva’s side with the aim of playing regular football having spent the last two years as backup to Bukayo Saka at Arsenal.

Nelson signed a new deal with the Gunners this time last year and is under contract until 2027 meaning there was no urgency to sell him this summer.

The likes of Leicester, West Ham and Crystal Palace all showed an interest in signing the winger this summer before Ipswich Town threw their hat in the ring this afternoon.

Nelson appeared to be on his way to Portman Road only for the Cottagers to steal in at the last moment. That Arsenal were willing to let him leave at all was the result of a late opportunity to sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.

Nelson is the 11th first team squad member to depart the club either permanently or on loan since the transfer window opened and the second, after Emile Smith Rowe, to land at Craven Cottage. He’ll be amongst familiar faces with ex-Gunners Bernd Leno and Alex Iwobi also on the books in west London.

End of an era.

Hopefully Reiss is back next season after a successful loan.

Nice depth signing for Fulham. I doubt he would start over Adama Traore on the right. I suspect Silva wants that hair raising speed on at least one flank. Then on the other flank is our old friend Iwobi, who I think is just a more complete footballer at this point, more of a schemer than Reiss. That said I’m sure they would love to bring on Reiss for either of those guys instead of Harrison Reed or Harry Wilson, so I can see him being a first guy off the bench, starting some cup games maybe. I hope he… Read more »

He’ll have stiffer competition for a starting berth than at Ipswich I reckon.
At Fulham he needs to show consistently that he is more explosive than Harry Wilson and have better end product than Adama Traore to nail the starting position…Not an impossible task I think and if he can do just that then we might have a player there as I reckon Fulham efficient quick transition game would suit him.
Good to c that he will be reunited with Iwobi and Emile…They will surely helps quickened his integration into the team.

So, down to 3 wingers until January?

Anyone know the deets? Straight loan?

Determination Cultured

Nelson right, iwobi left, rowe AM. Fulham striker is gonna outscore haaland. Eddie should have joined fulham!

Kris

Fantastic move for him. If it works badly people will say we’ve left £15m out there, but if it works well then we’ll have a guy back on a long term contract we know can offer something substantial to us long term. Think it’s worth the risk.
