Welcome to a brand new episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, the number one podcast about Arsenal Women.
In this emergency episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, Tim and Jamie run the rule over the resignation of Jonas Eidevall as the Head Coach of Arsenal Women. Tim talks a little bit about how Arseblog News became aware of and were able to (just about) break the story on Tuesday morning. Then Tim and Jamie analyse where things went wrong, how the situation took a serious turn in the last week, why it didn’t quite click the way the club and Jonas wanted it to and looked ahead to how Arsenal might succession plan for his departure. Tim and Jamie then each share one high point from Eidevall’s reign.

Hi Tim, great informative pod. What are your thoughts on whether there should be personnel or structural changes behind the scenes e.g. in Clare Wheatley’s position? The decision to extend Jonas’ contract and the mess with Viv have led us to this unfortunate place. Just wondering what your thoughts and insights on are on this topic. Thanks!
It was coming… I wondered about how long he’d be around from when Iwabuchi was transferred. Good luck to him but focus is ON Arsenal. While I hope they’re quick to regroup, I hope they take the time to get the right person in.
Not Jonas’s fault on Iwabuchi. She was bought for Joe’s playing style, it’s just unfortunate that she arrived the season after he left. That’s on the front office team who stuffed that one up.
We have to go for Bev Priestman former head coach of the Canada women’s national team. She will send drones to spy Man City and Chelsea’s training sessions. A bit of spice, I have always said we missed.
The conversation and resetting of ambition of the team and Jonas’s performances during the summer probably came into stark contrast with the poor start and I think the manner of the defeat to Munich was the final red flag for Edu and Co rather than Chelsea. Jonas’ comments about just going for it at 4-2 down, not worried about whether we concede more and it becoming a rout were a concern. It had that feeling of throwing up a white flag, nothing left in the “tactical” tank of how to arrest the decline. The chopping and changing of the team… Read more »
God, no Mark Parsons please..
I couldn’t agree more about JE’s strengths. I hope he takes time away and doesn’t look for another head coach job. My ideal scenario for him in the future would be 1) a long stint as a pundit on women’s football and/or 2) a job as a head tactical analyst. I think those areas are where his talents would be best used. And regarding Viv – what Jamie said, with bells on! If you, as a manager, let Miedema go, that’s your prerogative, but you have to replace her stature and her goals. Caldentey supplies the stature, but where are… Read more »
Yes, give Renée a real chance.
Absolutely to all of this. Additionally (and to repeat Jaime’s point), there has to be serious questions asked of whoever signed off on letting Viv leave. It wasn’t just down to Jonas, it was reported that there was more senior involvement. To be so sure that there was a “plan” for a team identity that Viv wouldn’t have been suitable for, but without clear evidence was shocking. There have been upgrades all around with the coaching and the playing staff, is it certain that the senior staff in charge of the Women’s side of the club are also able to… Read more »
