Welcome to a brand new episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, the number one podcast about Arsenal Women.
In this episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, Tim and Jamie comb through the 2-0 victory at West Ham. Tim and Jamie look at Arsenal’s tactical approach and selection and some of the issues with chance creation rearing their head again, question how much has changed and how much change we could expect from Renee Slegers’ interim charge and look at the impact of the quadruple substitution early in the second half. In the second half, Tim and Jamie take your questions on the midfield, whether Kafaji should have an increased role now, Steph Catley at centre-back, the goalkeeper situation, whether Arsenal need a ‘clean break’ with a new manager ASAP and then Tim and Jamie consider Manu Zinsberger’s recent LinkedIn post and consider the lines between criticism and abuse.

Enjoyed the Podcast and agree with much of what was said especially about Kafaji game time. She is not close to being the answer to perceived issues on her own neither does she or any other player guarantee what the fans want to see. We have to leave things with Renee who I think has been quite impressive.
Love what Rosa Kafaji showed. The daring, the unpredictability – the spirit of Jordan Nobbs lives on! She has plenty to learn, but plenty of time to do it because we have Mariona. She’s our joker. And Stina’s first shot was saved, she didn’t miss! JE wasn’t a disaster, he just was a bit over reliant on his structure and on some players. So although RS *might* be a continuity coach, only a little change in certain areas might be sufficient to bring us the best version of Jonasball – the fun, scorey version version in which the players use… Read more »
I meant *Kafaji* is our Joker.
Loved the Louise Quinn name-check, too…
Our number 9 problem is that we have 2 strikers who are really good but not quite at the highest level. They’re not that different in age, or in output, either. I think we are coming to the point where we need to let one of them go and get in a top striker.
We have to get the next managerial appointment absolutely right.
I’d be wary about rushing in to appoint a new manager. I may be a little overcautious, but I am afraid of getting it wrong. Also, despite Arsenal being one of the most attractive jobs in women’s football, are there any obvious candidates out there? I think Renee can get as much out of the current squad as any likely immediate replacement.
On your point about our strikers, somewhat reluctantly, I have to agree. But again, where can we find someone who is an undoubted upgrade?
You misunderstand me – I am saying that RS should be under serious consideration for the permanent position, but at the very least, she can buy the club time to find the ideal candidate, whether that is RS or someone else. I like her a lot, I would be interested to see if she can make a tweaked, less rigid version of Jonasball work, especially since we have a squad which was chosen to play his style. It might be that we have to jettison that style with a new manager, or even that she herself ditches it, though that’s… Read more »
I’m completely with you. I didn’t mean to imply that you were advocating for a rapid appointment, just emphasising the importance of getting it right. Rather starkly, this season’s goal is to finish above at least one of the Manchester teams (and Brighton). There is then the longer term rebuilding project. It will be interesting to see how the club manages the management of these targets!
Oh, sorry about the misunderstanding! 😄
Yes, this season was already important, but it has just become huge for everyone – players, coaching staff and higher-ups.
To change our style of play in possession of the ball, only a coach with knowledge of “English, Spanish” football could do that, quick short and long passes, be more offensive, counterpress a more collective team, RS could do that, but I don’t know if she has that technical knowledge.
Don’t understand why Cuthbert got to play last weekend. Having done 2 bookable things against us
