According to The Athletic, Arsenal are set to appoint James King as director of football operations.
King, who served as Arsenal’s legal and senior legal counsel from 2016 to 2022, returns to the club after holding the position of general counsel at the Professional Footballers’ Association.
He steps into a position vacated by Richard Garlick who was promoted to managing director when Vinai Venkatesham stepped down as CEO in the summer.
We’re not entirely sure of the ins and outs of King’s responsibilities so we’ll be reductive and just label him “the contracts guy”.
Presumably, he’ll work closely with the aforementioned Garlick, as well as sporting director Edu, executive vice chairman Tim Lewis and general counsel Svenja Geissmar.
Sounds good, history with our club and the PFA.
Look forward to him signing a contract for a new forward! And some defenders, we are very short of them….
Lots of luck to him.
We’re not short in physio at all.
Have no issues with Garlick but I do like the smell of this appointment.
Can he play in defense? Preferably as a LB?
I have no strong opinion on this
Yes! More lawyers is just what we need to close the gap on $ity
How do we arrange a Tifo of King and Garlick scrutinising the latest catering contract?
Never Havert the Garlick King White Rice with Tomiyasu Sauce, oh Jesus.
His time here will surely be biblical
I think his experience will translate well.
WoW Garlick didn’t last long ??
He’s Managing Director now, hence the vacancy
Wtf is a managing director
It’s a director who manages.
I don’t understand. Is Garlick stepping down, but staying at the club? If so, why?
Garlick was promoted to Vinai’s job when he left. This guy is taking over Garlick’s old job.
