Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz spoke to Sky Sports after the 5-1 win over Man City at the Emirates this afternoon. Here’s what they had to say.
Not just a win, but a big win …
Odegaard: Yeah, it was a tough game, tough performance. And yeah, with the fans, the atmosphere and the scoresheet like that, it can’t be better, so very happy.
What was key …
Havertz: I think we managed to press them quite well. Didn’t give them much time. I mean, they are still a top team and sometimes they beat the press, but I think our energy was good. We used all our chances and at the end it was a good game.
Ode and Kai combining in the press … how does it work?
Havertz: You know, like going, but maybe not going too early, luring them in, that kind of thing? I think it’s the timing, you know. I mean, we train it a lot of times and I think it’s not only us two, it’s everyone. I think when we push and go to the defensive players, everyone needs to push through. And I think the energy there is very important. And obviously we are the first ones to press, but the rest of the team, they’re doing it excellent as well.
Odegaard on Havertz …
Yeah, massive impact again today. You know, you see everything he does. The score again, assists, he’s always there. You know, with and without the ball, massive impact. So, yeah, top player. So, yeah, good to have him on the team.
Havertz on his goal…
Yeah, it was nice. I think I was a bit frustrated from the chance of the first half. So, I thought to myself, I need to score one. Yeah, when I saw it going in, obviously, I was very happy.
On their partnership …
Odegaard: Yeah, we have a good connection. You know, we understand each other. I know where he wants the ball and where he wants to move. He’s an intelligent player, you know. So, it’s good to play with him. And yeah, not just him, the whole team. I think we have a great connection, everyone. And we know each other so well now. Yeah, you can really see that on the pitch.
Shut the door on the way out, Pep!
Even though you work for an oil state, do your part and turn off the lights first!
I’m going to get so fucking drunk tonight
COYG
What a great idea.
Send us over some of that sweet Belgian stuff while you’re at it
You must mean waffles of course
Nope, I mean that 9% alcohol Westmalle or Leffe Tripel that’s gonna knock your socks off tonight and make you stay real humble tomorrow
A sad day when Partey leaves that midfield man.
Nope.
Feels a bit like Xhaka’s last season. They both took a step up before stepping away! No doubt the youngsters have learned a lot from him, and he’ll leave this team in much better shape.
With Partey it was more his fitness but a fully fit Partey spinning away from opponents is the best feeling since Vieira flicking it over them
Get that [redacted] out of my club
And where was the proof
Evidence?
Overall up to this point I’d say his arsenal career has been a failure so I’d say no , if zubimendi comes in that’s a definite upgrade imo
He’s been a great signing. On of he best by Arteta and Edu. If Zubimendi is an upgrade then that will be incredibly exciting if he signs.
Very sad…Partey is so good that city would have him fill in for Rodri in a heartbeat! We won’t get 3years out of him however and he’ll be looking to sign a last mega contract most likely in Saudi Arabia. I would offer him 3years so he ends up playing the jorginho role in his final years..Even zubimendi has to gradually bed into the team..will be a mistake to lose jorginho and partey in the same window..
Not bad scoring 9 goals agaist City today – 5 Men & 4 Women!
I believe Mr blogs article pre game was calling for us to lean on hale end……..how did that pan out
Lean on!?! You could land a Boeing on Hale End and they’d shrug it off.
Gotta say, I’m failing miserably at being humble
This!
It was sometime ago I saw us like this, like a hungry, cynical, confident wolves pack, never satisfied. This is the attitude we need, and our shortage in quality being backfilled by magnificent youth players also doesn’t hurt.
Did big Gabi get his boot back ? Love that man more than sausage chips & curry sauce !!!
I absolutely love the fact that Nwaneri and MLSklly have shown that being patient and having the absolute professional attitude works at Arsenal, now Chido and Heaven and Crozier Duberry are examples of those who will never know if they can make the cut at Arsenal.
This is the level.
Hale End > H*****d
I am so proud of this team!
I prayed for days like this
God bless Arteta
Amen 🙏🏾
I strongly think we are buying jonathan david, lille just got chuba akpom on loan. looks really something is cooking
I doubt Lille will sell him now, not when they’ve done so well in the Champions League. Hopefully we’ll get him on a free in the summer, though.
Ødegaard’s performance today sum’s up what this season has revealed to me about this team. He’s our most creative player with the ball and today he wasn’t as accurate with his passes, and wasn’t able to make us progress on the pitch as we are used to with him. But his work rate and leadership skills to coordinate our press were just absurd today. Our first three goals came from us smothering them trying to play out from the back. You can see on the fourth goal’s replay how Øde ran from the edge of our box to theirs making… Read more »
